Just ignore the troll. Decent system. Will enable you to play light gaming and provide video acceleration for your internet videos. I was able to get an 5800k for 100 at ncix via their referrals programand a a 75board for 60ish. Idle if the locked cpu cares about memory speeds but might be worth it to buy your own ram if you game. I know it helped the 5800k in gaming benches.

I'm in the market for a computer. I've built plenty, but am going to get a Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc this time. A main concern of mine is how quiet it is. Can anyone here speak to the general level of fan/disk noise in these consumer grade boxes? I have a Dell Optiplex 980 next to me at work that is very quiet, so any comparisons to that machine would be great.

Also, about how frequently can I expect to see a really great Slickdeal on a low to mid range desktop? Once a month? Every two months? I'm not in a huge hurry to make this purchase.

So the days of FUD about AMD processors vs. Intel- software /instruction set compatibility, reliability, etc. - are long gone and it's just down to general and graphics computing performance?

i recently bought the hp p7-1414 for about $360 during BB's open box promo, to be used as our htpc with these specs [hp.com] and seeing that they have the same motherboard as the p7-1446s with these specs [hp.com], i say 'No' it does not have audio out on the DVI port. I have to use the spdif to connect to our audio receiver for now until i can upgrade and put in a dedicated video card.

In this particular case, it seems that it is the features that matter. The FP Lenovo i5 deal from a couple of weeks ago was well received by those who appreciated the Ivy Bridge 3rd-gen i5 power. Many, however, felt that i5 is not as important for an average user as a balance between processign power, graphics and connectivity.

This deal seems to have hit the cord with all those who stayed away from the Lenovo deal: It has the right mix of graphics, connectivity (USB 3.0 and Wi-Fi) and sufficient processing power. It is a great box in terms of "set it and forget it" for an average, non-builder/non-tinkerer user.
