Chavez talked about helping the poor, but his incompetence with the economy hurt them much more, and Chavez was able to stay in power only because the price of oil went way up. Obama has been extremely pro-corporation, as demonstrated by record corporate profits (including as a proportion of GDP), very little prosecution of the fraudulent bankers who caused the Great Recession, and his implementation of the Heritage Foundation's universal health insurance system. Even Reagan pushed harder on financial regulation (doubled the SEC's budget) and prosecution. I'm sympathetic toward some of the liberal left's ideas, but not all leftists are liberals. I'm also sympathetic toward some of the conservative right's ideas, but again, not all rightists are conservatives. I'm pretty close to the middle, which would be obvious in countries like Canada and Britain, where the mainstream right hasn't been taken over by radicals. |

I certainly don't wear flower pots on my head... Looks like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Sean Penn & the Rev. Jesse Jackson, all attended the funeral today. Last edited by OhNoItsDEVO; 03-08-2013 at 02:16 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

I love those two bolded and this is exactly what I mean. Sean Penn and Jesse Jackson are both millionaires many times over. Yet, because they say all the right things about the poor and working class, they get passed over by the media and left-wing war machine. Sean Penn shoots up a movie theater in his latest movie and puts out trailers on the subject.... media says nothing and continues to think that the NRA is blood-thirsty. The truth: Management at IRS can blame themselves and how they have chaotic and poor management, but God-forbid you, or I, or anybody else in America gets audited and doesn't have their ducks in order and s***-together, your ass is going to court or jail.
Shout out to Congressman Mike Kelly for stating it as it is... Link [realclearpolitics.com] |

Many on the left systemically mourns the loss of some of the most vile and anti-American dictators and leaders from around the world. There are so many on the left who talk about the poor and working class of any country and how it's so terrible this, that and the other. How big corporations exploit these people and it's a form of industrialized slavery. Yet.... they do this and retire in their Beverly Hills mansions (or can afford a BH mansion if they don't have one) at night sleeping on top of their tens or hundreds of millions (or more) in wealth. No, I'm not jealous of nor do I despise their wealth. Rather, it's more of a say/support certain things in popular media just so that you can be loved and revered by idiots. Photos of Sean Penn's home --> http://www.sanfranciscosentinel.com/?p=15416 (Sean Penn buying Chavez's claim of being for the poor is like Dennis Rodman buying Kim Jong Un's rhetoric that he's for the poor......regardless of the political spectrum, we can agree that North Korea is just a wasteland of political brainwashing). Is Venezuela impoverished in many places today? Yes, it is. But it's far better than it used to be. Was President Chavez a "tyrant?" Maybe in the westernized sense. Comparisons to Mussolini and Hitler are nothing but shameless propaganda, but he did do what he could to secure his power, there's no doubt of that. He was a strong leader, and he made no secret of the fact that he believed it was best for Venezuela if he remained in power And the people agreed! He was elected democratically. If his policies seem horrible to you, that's only because you're looking at them from a first-world perspective. He did what he needed to do to save his people, and that included plenty of shady dealings. There's no way to compare his control of Venezuela to the United States - the policies he passed in Venezuela (yes, *socialist* policies) would be awful in the United States for reasons you all are aware of. In third-world Venezuela, though, where people are concerned with starvation rather than the stock market, President Chavez is seen by the majority as a hero of the people. Condemning him without evidence is ignorant and privileged. TL;DR - Judging him by western standards is unfair. He took Venezuela and did the best he could with it, and it's massively better today thanks to him. President Hugo Chávez was a hero.
Do you support safe gun use? Prove it. [convio.net] There are millions of homeless and formerly abused pets out there, and if everyone on Slickdeals donated just 5% of the money they saved here to help them, we could make a big difference. [aspca.org] |
