If you were the Attorney General, and you were asked, yes-or-no, would you honestly say that there are no possible circumstances in which military force would be used to kill a US citizen on US soil?
There's a Coast Guard base near my house, and those guys use deadly force all the time. Boat packed with explosives, flying towards the Golden Gate Bridge? Hell, yes they'll use force to stop it. |

Where were the conservative/libertarian objectors then? |

But I suppose it was an easier decision for Cheney, since he was in the White House, which was a target. |

I doubt anyone would argue against the use of deadly force in cases of imminent threat. that is already perfectly legal and has been forever. police/FBI carry guns for a reason. so whats the point of discussing that?
The use of drones has been used in cases where there is NO imminent threat but the military wants to take out a terrorist camp (as an example). that is the real question.... can these be used in the ABSENCE of a true imminent threat (on US soil against non-military US citizen targets.)? |

I'm hard pressed to think of a non-imminent threat on local soil where we would use a drone strike. I mean, I feel the reason they are used so much abroad is that it is unfriendly territory, and time and safety are of the essence. Home soil has lots of friendly LE to help out, and they don't have to worry about IEDs. Last edited by travathian; 03-05-2013 at 09:59 PM.. |
