ATT Galaxy S2 acting up. Shows charging and MTP randomly

Hi slickdealers,

My AT&T Galaxy S2 has been acting up recently. It will show charging and mtp initialization randomly. The worst thing is that my computer won't recognize it when it's plugged in. It's also buggy when rebooting as it cycles through charge sequences. Already tried a factory reset and it's past the warranty period. I read somewhere that it might be the usb port. Any thoughts? And if all else fails should I just send it in to samsung for service?

if its past warranty period, it may be cheaper to just buy a "new" used phone than to send to samsung to repair.

Is this a completely stock Skyrocket? or rooted/custom rom?

To rule if its the hardware problem, d/l stock firmware 2.3.4 from here [xda-developers.com]and flash with ODIN.
Also wipe Dalvik and system cache.

If you flash the complete stock GB Rom and still have these issues, then it's prob the USB port.

From reading the OP my guess is the USB port may be the problem. I would try a different USB cable to charge and access computer to see if that changes anything. Loading a custom rom like CyanogenMod my help with the software things and speed of the phone.
