Are those "free" channels actually free? or do they require individual accounts to access it?

I have Roku HD, WDTV Live, Sony Blu-ray w/ apps, and Logitech Revue, and Android stick. Soon I will be getting an Apple TV. This thread is a perfect example of ignorance and bias that not a few people have about Roku. To think for a moment that this is an obsolete and illigitimate device is just plain foolish. No ONE device is the "be-all, end-all" to home streamers, but Roku represents the best overall solution for cord cutting entertainment. Where else can you watch original TV programming from all around the world for mostly free along with literally hundreds of channels? If you are negative about the fact that this is not a deal at full price, point taken. But to bash Roku as obsolete and illigitimate is just plain silly and a loss of all credibility. For everything the Roku does, nothing at the moment compares. Actually, if you want the best of everything, I feel you need a Roku and a WDTV Live (w/ an Android box/stick as a niche option).

[QUOTE=SlickDealio;58026974]There is a private channel called VideoBuzz that allows you to watch YouTube content. I wish I could have gotten the official channel, but it seem to be a good alternative for the time being.
https://owner.roku.com/add/VideoBuzz Thanks for link, very much appreciated! |

Having said that, I'm waiting on some real world reviews of Ouya after people start getting them. |

correct me if I am wrong, anything this plays for free is already available on the web
for free. Yes it is on Various web sites, for example to watch cnn content I would go cnn.com for NBC I will go to there web site etc. There is nothing live to watch, whatever live to watch is also available on the channels web sites. Do I buy this for convenience to have everything at one place. Also this does not have you tube support. Yes I know there are tons of workarounds to watch pirated TV.( I don't know if I can call free to air TV this) Last edited by itsme13; 03-06-2013 at 09:12 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

The headphone thing is awesome. Really great idea.
Yeah a bluray player has a lot of the same features (except NHL Gamecenter which I use all the time), but these things are dead simple, very tiny, and do their job. I'm a fan. Keep in mind that I never buy the higher end Rokus though. I always buy the $59 versions. Last edited by gregor7777; 03-06-2013 at 09:18 AM.. |

First off I want to say that I am not a ROKU hater. I actually have an original XDS and two Roku2 XS and love them.
BUT, besides the audio jack in the remote and new browser main page I don't really see the difference from the Roku 2 XS ? BTW, I looked at the back. they took the audio out away from the box itself. I have my TV hanging over a mantle and I use the audio out on my 2 XS to external speakers separate from the HDMI that goes into my TV. So I can use small shelf speakers with a small subwoofer. They should have put audio jack in box AND control. I'll stick with my 2 XS. Another gripe..is STILL No YOUTUBE and the USB port is still the same which means almost useless to any media. BTW The new updated main browser page could and should totally be updated for Roku 2 users. Last edited by guitardedboy; 03-06-2013 at 09:34 AM.. |

The other main difference in my opinion is the dual core A9 processor, that is said to be 5 times faster than the current Arm11. Menus, channel loading, and even buffer time is said to be significantly faster. I have many rokus and love them. but I will say they are slow to load channels/menus. A faster processor is nothing to sneeze at. Having said all that, I don't intend to upgrade my Roku 2 XS devices at this time. I'll wait for a slickdeal or even a refurb. Plus, I'm kinda waiting to see if the Ouya is going to make a good media streamer (not sure about remote though). I don't game, but the family does a lot of streaming. Simplicity will be very important for us since I'm trying to keep three young kids and an technophobe wife happy. |
