Audio-Technica ATH-A900X Audiophile Closed-Back Dynamic Headphones (black) $165 + Free Shipping

I've had these for over a year. Bought mine from Amazon Japan and they are better then my old A700. I have this setup to my Asus STX sound card and they go well together.

Will these fit just one ear?

I respectfully disagree, but I will admit that "sounding great" is a relative/subjective term. The Beats seem to be made for casual listening, and I would not associate them with anything near audiophile sound quality, and they have a Frequency Response that is VERY bass-heavy.

I apologize for the different sources, but you can see how the Frequency Response of the Monster Turbine Pro (not sure how different the Golds are) differ from that of the ATH-A900X:

I have used ATH-A700 (previous generation) and they have been fantastic. It's hard to beat the value for sound quality & comfort for these. Do not compare these with in ear headphones, there is no comparison on comfort.

Since there are already plenty of pros I'll list the cons for me

1) Plastic construction is a bit weak. Left connector on mine snapped after a few years.
2) Earpads material wears out easily (easily replaced. i just replaced mine for $11 for a pair shipped directly from audio technica)
3) No removable cord, my original cord got jacked after a few years so I had to cut it off and resolder on a new jack.

What the heck are those two graphs telling me? I'm trying to figure out what headphones to buy, not go to science class.

And yes I would jump on this deal based on my experience with the A700's. Only problem is my A700's are still good so I'm not

Flat is good. The Monsters are very bass heavy.

Thanks. I'm trying to get new headphones. These ATH-A900X are too expensive for me right now - need cheaper, but want over the ear headphones.

Are this better than the klipsch that was on sale for $69?

Yes, flatter is better. Again, though, some people might consider that an opinion.

If you want to boost the bass (for listening enjoyment), then it's better IMO to have a flat response from your headphone/earphone, and handle the frequency response tweaking to your equalizer.

If the listening hardware (headphone/earphone) has a wonky frequency response, then you're pretty much locked into that, and forced to change your levels to get a flat output (which isn't the best way to do it, anyway).

Flat response is a better baseline to start with, and I believe it's generally a mark of better quality.

I've been waiting for the price to go lower on the a700x but this seems to be too good to pass up for the higher end version. There's rarely any good deals on quality headphones too.

The Golds and Coppers are both well-regarded IEMs. You're painting with too broad a brush here, because you don't like Beats. The Turbine line of IEMs is in a different category; you can see how they stack against other IEMs here [head-fi.org](I find comparing IEMs to full-sized headphones very difficult). Scroll down to 1C6 and 1C7 for the Coppers and Miles Davis Tributes. I'm guessing the author has more experience evaluating and comparing IEMs, but I could be wrong. I agree that Beats are overpriced and sound terrible, but I don't think that should color your opinions of the Turbines.
