I'm wondering how do these books appeal to adults? Most of the people I know who read these books are teens. These are not something like Twilight, are they? If they are, I'll pass.

I'm not a huge reader; but read most of the popular books that make the rounds; im over 30 and a male and found them entertaining. It's not as boring as twilight which my wife has made me watch. |

I don't believe that "I saw the movie and didn't like it" is an adequate basis for panning the books. The books are... well, they're alright, but certainly nothing special. At least they have a teen heroine that doesn't set back the feminist movement by a couple of decades like the perfectly terrible "Twilight" series. Then again, I'm at least twice as old and the wrong gender to be part of the target audience for either of these series. WE ARE THE 89%!!

It's written for young adults, so obviously it's not going to be the deepest story every, but I'd say it's a lot deeper than many here are making it out to be. Revolves around the central themes of tyranny and human nature. It definitely gets quite dark, so I'd be wary of giving it to younger readers. And in my opinion the book was a thousand times better than the movie.
As other have pointed out, you can convert the book file into a format of your choice using Calibre. Google Play books can be converted and used on a Kindle (or any reading device, and there are also apps for Android/iOS that can read them). But keep in mind that it doesn't work the other way around; you won't be able to read your Kindle book on Google Play, which is unfortunate as I think Google's app is much better quality than Amazon's.
