Termites attacked wood fence pickets

termites have attacked a couple of old wood fence pickets in far back fence.

the fence is very old and we have been patching it to avoid having to shell out about $2K for a chain link hurricane fence.

we are one of the last houses on this block to still have a wooden back privacy fence. O.O

the bottom of the wood pickets do touch the ground which i know is very bad.

there is a near by fence post and a tree on the other side with a fire ant pile, which i put white ortho poison powder on today.

i read that ants and termites dont get along together, but they are very close here.

as a quick fix for the termite problem i dug about an inch of dirt out from under those affected wooden pickets.

can i put some gas on the bottom of the pickets to kill the termites?

i read that bleach is better?

run a snap line about 3" above the grass and trim all the pickets off at that point

you should also look to see where the termites are coming from there is probably a nest somewhere

i suspected the pile next the tree on the other side but when i turned it over this morning there were fire ants.

You can cut off the post at ground level and find a nifty plastic gizmo that will replace the part of it that goes into the ground. Or secure a chain link post to the above ground intact section of the wooden fence. Many good routes to take before tossing a wooden fence.
