Despite what Amazon says, this product is NOT made by Microsoft. This is a third party item. I bought one and was able to get it to work after some googling for the drivers (the disc they included did not work).
If you buy this for $40, you get a black controller WITH a genuine MS adapter and it works flawlessly. So much nicer to game with a controller than a kbd in my opinion:

In January I bought this exact product for $13.09.

So essentially this is a $0.50 drop? Not a hot deal.

That said, bought this, plugged it into my computer's USB drive and brought a wireless Xbox controller out from my bedroom, synced it just like I would a console, and it works perfectly on any games that support controllers.

It looks like they have it for $20. This ones significantly cheaper and has good reviews. Also amazon should have an easy return policy if I'm not happy with it. I think it'll be okay. Or I could just switch it with my roommates maybe he wont notice

Xbox controllers use 2.4Ghz wireless like a wireless mouse, not bluetooth unfortunately. So you're forced to buy this big, bulky receiver.
