Just picked an open box model up for 385 including tax in cali..
Salespeople were horrible though. Went in at 8:30 am and they took 20 minutes just to find the tool to get the laptop off of its display, and then couldn't figure out the password to restore the demo stuff on it. I ended up paying for it and leaving because the manager that knew the password wasn't coming in till 11 am.. The earliest they said i could get it was 11:30, which is pretty ridiculous. but its hard to argue such a great laptop for the price, not going back to Staples though.. |

It's not necessarily a better deal with Staples or Adorama, depending on whether you've got an old netbook lying around or some Rewards that have to be spent soon or not. I get that you didn't mean to crap on this deal, but don't you think leaving out the most important part of the deal and comparing what's left over is kinda sorta thread crapping? Because then you're not actually comparing the deal in the OP to the FP one, you're comparing a deal of your own making with the FP one, and then saying the one in the OP isn't all that great. Me, personally, I DO happen to have an old netbook that I'd happily trade for $100 credit AND some Staples rewards sitting in my account. $275, probably around $300 after taxes, less my rewards seems like a good deal. I may just swing by Staples later today and see if they've any left. I have a nice notebook, but it's heavy. This might be better, and then I could sell the notebook...hmm... |

2) For those who do have laptops/tablets laying around to trade in, some are probably worth more than $100 on CL/E-bay/etc. -- even after time/fees/etc. The frontpage deal could be readily had by anybody and everybody. Tax free for most (if not all) and free shipping. Not hunting. No hoping. No gas. And since not everybody (I would estimate that few people, actually) have tablets/laptops laying around that are worth sub-$100 for a trade in, again, the "I got it for $275" deal isn't available to most people. Even then, you didn't get the computer for $275 OTD. You got it for $275 (after trade-in "refund" down the road = more hassle) + tax + you're no longer in possession of your laptop/tablet. If your laptop was truly worth $0, then yes, you got this for $275. If all of the stars align and you have a ton of rewards + a junk laptop/tablet that you don't care about, plus a store with stock nearby then a great deal for you and anybody else who this fits. My point was simply this -- the FP deal was available to anybody who wanted it with no "hoping they have it in stock". And "trade-ins" aside (since Adorama didn't require a trade-in to "sweeten" the deal), the price points were almost exactly the same since the Staples one would have tax. |
