Those of you who are new to this ASUS notebook:

There is a wealth of information here in Slickdeals on this notebook and its sibling the X202e.

Just do a thread title search for S200e and X202e in the Hot deals forum AND the Deal talk forum.

For instance you'll learn that both use the same BIOS, that the latest Bios is the 207, that you have to hit F2 to get to the Bios ONLY AFTER a warm boot or RESTART. Hitting F2 on a cold boot, by pressing the power button will get you nowhere near the Bios but back into Win8.
And that the 207 Bios is ONLY listed in the ASUS site under the X202e NOT under the S200e which lists only the 205 Bios.
Also a tip on the battery used in this notebook is posted above in post #184.

There is a lot more to learn by reading all the threads if you want to get the MAX out of the S200e OR the X202e for that matter, and it'll save you a lot of time and aggravation by gaining the knowledge others have found out the hard way BUT shared it here for all to benefit.
Yes I have read them all trying to decide if the X202e is worth the $70 more I paid than the S200e one I got from Staples. Mostly about the WiFi differences. I don't really care about dual band, I care about range and reliability.

Here is also a site that has a lot of info on both.

I picked up a new one today, but had to drive far to get it. Overall, it was worth it, as it appears to be a very nice computer. Thaks to the poster of this thread for the lead.

Oh good catch..I asked the rep if it did come with the external drive but I forgot to verify when I paid and signed papers to have them clean the unit out of all their software installed on it. I pick it up tomorrow morning. Will have to ask or else it will stay there and I'm getting my money back. How do you like hours so far BTW,
I've only messed around a little bit with it but it is pretty cool. Issues were that the screen shakes when you use the touchscreen, and it is a bit too small screen-wise for my tastes, so I think I am gonna return it or sell it and get a Yoga. I really like the Yoga, and it is cool how you can hold it like a tablet.

Very interesting.

Look at your box/laptop bottom clearly. It seems the box says S200E as Model. But below the serial number, it shows MB VER X202E

Also confirmed at the back of the laptop and also confirmed on "Hardware" in Control Panel.

Seems at least my laptop is the X202E but boxed in the S200E.

Folks: I need help

Mine was a floor model and I was asked to come next day to pick the laptop. The associate who pulled out the laptop misplaced Power Adapter....all the staffs at that Staples looked all around but couldn't find it. They are not giving me any other option other than just return it, which I don't want to because I got it for $353 with tax and all Staples in 20 miles radius are out.

Q1: Can I buy an OEM or generic power adapter from ebay or Amazon (would that harm this new laptop or battery life)?

Q2: If yes, which one is the best. Asus US E-store has Q200E selling as $49.99 plus $9 shipping (I guess tax will be added too).

TIA

The chances are 50% if that helps.

Rhetorical question, it was. Smilie course it's 50% chance.

BIOS is up to v. 208.
Now hitting F2 on a cold boot, by pressing the power button, will get to the Bios.

After all of this, I think I'm returning it. Unfortunately, the machine is a paperweight for my dad - windows 8 is unusable. He can't open a powerpoint file from an email, and after spending hours troubleshooting, I can't get it to work. Windows 8 makes Vista seem like the best OS ever.

First off, thank you ckeusa for this awesome deal!

I have to say that this is a very nice laptop (faux-ultrabook, glorified netbook, whatever you want to call it). I have had no issues with it yet (got it Saturday 3/9), and my only complaints are that it doesn't have a backlit keyboard, and that it comes with a 5400 RPM hard drive (which is kind of ridiculous for an OS drive). Guess I just got spoiled with my ASUS gaming laptop!

I could take or leave Windows 8, personally. It's easy enough to use with the touchscreen, but it just doesn't make me say "awesome!" or anything. So I dual-booted it with Ubuntu 12.10, which looks and performs great! It has made this laptop much better. Getting around UEFI was a small pain, but I figured it out in a short amount of time.

Haven't upgraded the firmware yet, but I probably will soon. The battery life seems to be around 4 hours of web browsing and other normal operations. Probably going to upgrade the HDD to an SSD as soon as possible. Also, it was nice to get a USB DVD drive in the box.

Sending in (really) old Dell laptop that doesn't ever get used to make it $297 with tax.

Overall, I'm really pleased with this laptop. Thanks again OP!

Ended up at the store the day the coupon expired the first time (3/7?) They said they had them in stock, but when I told them I wanted one they realized they didnt have any other than the display. The display model had some gouges on the plastic on the bottom and they wouldnt take anymore than the 5% off. I was a bit furious since I wasted time to get them to tell me it was a no go, I could have made the trip to get one within 10 miles. I had to make the decision to not purchase it and thought I lost out until I read the coupon was reissued and extended!

Ended driving about 30 miles out to get one and can't be happier, ordered the replacement wifi card that would play nice with OSX, and I spent the time waiting setting up windows and installing mac osx with a usb wifi card for the mean time.

Now waiting for my shipping label to appear in the mail to get a 100 bucks back for my old clunky laptop, anyone gotten there's yet?

Since nobody replied I kept waiting for a reply....something good was bound to happen...I got a call from the store that they found the Power Adapter....and guess what, to make me happy for the inconvenience I had...they further took $50 off....so final price at the store was $304 (with taxes).....if you are reading this not feeling jealous....now you would

I sold my laptop at Craigslist for $150 which I never expected more than $100....so the final price for this Asus S200E is $153 (with tax)....
