Has to be over $459.99 so this Asus wouldn't qualify Frown
Can just get X202e. Price match to amazon and use the 100 coupon and 100 trade in for 285.

These WiFi cards, the Intel 6235 as well as the Atheros AR5B225 built-in to the X202e, have what is called Diversity Antenna plugs, BUT not all netebooks/laptops have BOTH antennas built-in.
The S200e has ONLY one black antenna wire plugged into the MAIN plug on the WiFi card.
According to an Amazon review of the X202e:

"WIRELESS:
The Atheros AR5B225 Half Mini PCIe WiFi/Bluetooth 4.0 module is replaceable.
I am replacing mine with Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 so I can use WiDi and Dual Band Wifi.
It was as easy as removing the two antenna wires from the Atheros, popping in new card, reattaching two antenna wires to the Intel 6235."

SO the X202e has Diversity Antennas built-in while the S200e does NOT.
This may explain the Bluetooth issues many have experienced with the Intel 6235 installed in a S200e to replace the Atheros WiFi only card that came with it.

When one antenna has a poor signal the other antenna will have a stronger signal and the WiFi card and its software will pick up the signal from the stronger antenna so as not to lose connectivity. Diversity Antennas do NOT improve range, only make the connection more stable.
Diversity Antennas are also built into cell phones and tablets BUT not all devices have them because they require special installation so that one can complement the other in case of weak radio signals.

You can buy the antenna wires for these WiFi cards on Amazon or ebay for a few $, (just search for tyco mini pci on ebay) but installing an additional antenna wire in the AUX plug for instance may not be very effective because these antennas must be installed in a special way, so that they can complement each other in case of weak radio signals, for example, distance between the antennas and other factors that you can research online if you are more interested in the inner workings of Diversity Antennas.
But it may help, it may be better than no second antenna at all, or it may screw up the radio signal strengths altogether resulting in greater loss of connectivity if you have connectivity issues.

Here is some info:

Note: The transmission diversity function is implemented for this product. For WLAN cards (Model:
2230BNHMW, BCM94313HMG2L, BCM943142HM, AR5B125, AR5B225 using Main and
Auxiliary antennas for transmission in the IEEE 802.11 b/g transmission mode, radio frequency
energy is not emitted simultaneously from both Main and Auxiliary antennas. One of the
antennas is selected automatically or manually (by users) to have good quality of
radiocommunication (transmission diversity function). For WLAN cards 2230BNHMW,
BCM94313HMG2L, BCM943142HM, AR5B125, AR5B225 in the IEEE 802.11 a/b/g, or MIMO
(Multiple In Multiple Out ) transmission mode, the radio frequency energy is emitted from Main
antenna.

This deal is dead. It no longer appears in the Staples web site, its stores are out, and therefore price matching anywhere will be impossible.

The best bet is to visit as many Staples stores as you can and see if you can buy the display model or if they have an open box return. If they do then you can get around 10% off for buying an open box/display.
The $100 off coupon expired on 3/16 but the$100-$400 trade-in deal is active until 3/31.
Staples may or may not issue another $ off coupon next week.

Those of you who may think of opening up this notebook, you can get some insights here:

http://nathanwan.com/how-to-creat...tall-hack/

It applies to all models, S, X, or Q.
You may want to replace the HD with a SSD, or replace the WiFi card and/or add another antenna in the S or Q models, or replace the battery in 3-5 years when it dies.

Just be gentle in opening the cover clips with an old credit card, and do not force anything.
If you can not do it just leave it as it is. Better than breaking it!

As can be seen from these photos of this X202e, there are TWO antenna wires for the WiFi card, a black and a white.
That's a Diversity Antenna setup that's not present in the S or Q models. See my post above on these antennas.
It can be seen that the black wire is plugged in to the plug with the BLACK TRIANGLE or MAIN, and the white wire is plugged in to the plug with the WHITE TRIANGLE or AUX (ALT).

Also, remember that to make the display look good you should run the Win8 built-in Calibrate program.
Just search for Calibrate under settings and follow the instructions. You also have the option to enable True Type there.
Before yo do the calibration make sure you have the brightness and contrast controls available by right clicking on the screen, graphics properties, advanced mode, display, color enhancement.
The best ones for me are B=0, C=48, G=1, H=0, S=0.
Make sure you save after you finish the calibration.

The Calibrate program is also available in Win7.

Yup that's not bad at all. About $10 more than the s200e deal ($375 + tax) but still worth it in the end. Prefer the external drive as opposed to BT though.

I thought the Staples $100 coupon, in-store # 61179 or online # 23884, expired yesterday 3/16. Did Staples issue another one?
The$100-$400 trade-in deal is active until 3/31.
With the Staples price match and trade in it would be $485+about $40Tax=$525-$100Trade-in=$425 about.
Ok price, if you really want it.

Yes, I think the original quote was from a few days ago. Amazon had the x202e for $485 OTD so with the now-expired Staples coupon, you could have price matched that at Staples, take off $100 = $385 + tax. But since that coupon has already expired, its just not worth it any longer.

Wouldn't price matching bring the price down below the qualifying $459.99 to use the $100 off coupon?

From the Staples current weekly ad, page 14:

Item: 101506
Model: S200E-RHI3T73

$449.90
Save $200
was $649.99

Valid March 17 - March 23
Not available in all stores. While supplies last. Display models included.

http://weeklyad.staples.com/Stapl...genumber=1

As I said in my post #229 above, the best bet is to visit as many Staples stores as you can and see if you can buy the display model or if they have an open box return.
If they do then you can get around 10% off for buying an open box/display.
The$100-$400 trade-in deal is active until 3/31.

IF you find one it can potentially cost you: $450-$45(10%off for display/open box)=$405+about $35Tax=$440-$100Tradein=$340 possible.
IF you can not get the 10% off, it's not worth buying. You're better off getting the X202e Staples-to-Amazon price match, also described on above posts.

Since this item is no longer in stock you can not check store inventory online from home, you've got to go to the store. There you can ask them to check their internal inventory for other Staples stores.
If you're interested in particular stores go to the Staples online store locator, write down the store numbers, and take them with you to the store for checking.

If they do not want to sell you the display model just show them the ad that states: Display models included.

There is NO MORE $100 coupon, it expired on Saturday 3/16, see above posts.

Looks like there is a time lapse here! Yes the coupon expired. The original quote that I responded to was for the x202e that could be had at staples (a few days ago and when the coupon was still legit). At that time, the x202e was somewhere in the $500 ballpark at Staples. Amazon had it for $485. Because the $100 coupon was legit at that time, you could have had Staples price match Amazon at $485, and then take another $100 off to equal $385 + tax. That was my quote to the original poster for the x202e. Since the coupon already expired and you're looking at the s200e again, none of the above applies any longer!

Was wondering if any of you guys were running into problems with this ASUS with a disabled touchscreen after disconnecting from external monitor? I've been connecting my ASUS to an external monitor for a while now (with the lid close and using just the external monitor-- not a dual setup). Once I disconnect it from the external monitor and open the lid, my touchscreen is disabled. When I restart or shut off / turn on, seems like my touchscreen is still disabled "for a while". It does get enabled eventually-- seemingly after I log on to Windows 8, but is not consistent.

Anyone here experience something similar? My guy feeling is that there is a Windows 8 setting somewhere that is disabling it due to the external monitor and/or unplugged AC adaptor, but I can't seem to find it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
