Where to buy vram heatsinks for my ghetto video card mod
I plan on using this method to cool my gpu using my cpu water cooler. http://www.overclock.n Here is a video showing the zip tie method in action https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oz8370K Here's my water cooling http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...683511813 I'm using a saphire hd 6950 factory oc 2gb and plan on mounting my cpu liquid cooler to my video card. Problem is the zip tie method doesn't cover the vram chips or whatever they are called. Where can I get these v-ram heat spreaders? Cheap I hope. ![]() ![]()

After some research I came up with this. Will these work? Are all Vram the same sizes or something?

really wont do much as i don't believe you can cool VRM with those
prob something like this, as this is a true VRM heatsink block for W/Cing http://www.swiftech.co why are you interested in doing this mod again? Intel i7 2700k | Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z| 16 GB Gskill Ripjaw X | Corsair H80 | 2x EVGA GTX 670 FTW | Crucial M4 256 GB SSD | Samsung F1 1TB | WD Black 2TB | Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB | Seagate Barracuda 3TB | WD Green 2TB | Creative Titanium HD | Sony BD Drive | OCZ ZX850 | CM Storm Trooper | Dell U2711 | Filco Majestouch Linear R Limited Edition | Filco Majestouch 2 Metallic Blue MX Blue | Razer Naga Epic | Creative Gigaworks T40 II | Windows 7 Ultimate

Sometimes for parts like this, electronic parts dealers like B.G. Micro, Jameco, and Marlin P. Jones can be better than computer dealers. If those heatsinks don't have double-stick tape already attached, use regular silicone rubber sealant. It should conduct heat better than tape and thermal epoxy because it can usually be made thinner, but you can slice through it with a razor to remove the heatsinks later, without tearing off the chips. I think you can thin out silicone sealer with alcohol, but Loctite makes a very runny type made for sealing windshields. |

![]() ![]() Edit: I may go with the cooling block. I'm afraid that it will get in the way of my water cooling though. Whatya think? This is my water cooler. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...683511813 Last edited by gonepostl; 03-07-2013 at 06:20 AM.. |

You're putting a CPU cooler on a GPU. I mean why bother with this mod on a 6950, you're not gonna be pushing it much farther than air cooling tbh. You won't see a big significant increase in performance imo doing this mod. better off just getting one of those AC Air coolers. |

Ebay... Be very careful if you are using one of the permanent bonding agents!!! I've ruined one video card and a router playing around with that stuff. If they have it, get one that is non-conductive, the risk just isn't worth the extra one degree reward.

OP You'll love this
http://www.overclock.n triptcc.com Dishes are done for the mounting, so much better than zipties. As for VGA heatsinks? I'm not sure... I know mosfets you can find them but mosfets are on CPU vrms. PM me if you're interested in more links, OCN has plenty of stuff. I'm flashfir http://www.overclock.n Assuming you get get half decent cooling on the rest of your card, which Dwood's brackets come with mounting for 92 or 80mm, forgot which one it is, you can push core clocks a bit higher assuming that the GPU die dropping to 60c full load is the bottleneck as compared to high VRM temps. (which is probably more likely the case) Another variable has to do with the gpu and how well it'll clock. This mod is mainly for silence with performance, don't do it thinking you'll autoclock an extra 15%+ additional on top of your CURRENT overclock |
