i remember when people where buying $200 creative Muvo 2 and when it came they would RIP THEM OPEN to pull out the 4gb Hitachi Microdrive that cost $400 (this was at a time when the LARGEST CF was 1gb i never had one the largest CF i had was 512mb that cost $50) people where sticking them into a select few cameras that would use a CF/MD (Microdrives where thicker then CF)

in those days they referred to the $200 MD as "Precious Bounty" and you could still use the Muvo with a CF

I remember the "precious bounty" reference, although this one has ATA connectors. I bought it without researching much, thinking I'd use it on a CF DSLR. Oh well!

Hmmm .... I've got one of the last PATA laptops made at a great price back then, and it now sits needing a new drive, which are virtually impossible to find at a reasonable price. I'm pondering trying this, putting on XP, and use it for browsing only. With so much of my stuff now in the "cloud", maybe this would work.

Thoughts from anyone?

Not worth the hassle these days when compact flash is just as cheap, can survive a drop and is much faster. These things are really a relic from a decade ago.

dont bother. youll need to find an adapter and a ribbon cable for this thing. and it would be pretty slow, too.
i have seen msata -> ide 2.5" drive sized adapters. $75 (for the adapter and the msata) might extend the use of that laptop for a little longer. search ebay for 'ide msata 2.5'

I have an iPod mini that I modded and it had one of these drives in it, still works ok actually but I think there's a short somewhere since it resets if I squeeze it too tight. Still, 16 gb mini. So very useless in the age of smartphones.

hightop32 is right, mSATA + PATA adapter is the way to go. This T43 I'm typing on has an mSATA drive in it's future when prices drop just a little more.
