If you buy one on eBay, it has to be one w/ the CM119 chipset, or else it's not a fair comparison. There *is* a significant difference between the usb sound cards being offered on eBay in this regard.

how can you tell that the one you linked on ebay has the cm119 chipset? i didn't see a reference on the ebay page.

Some say it specifically, some don't. But after having used several of these over the years, you can tell visually.

The *non* CM119 chipsets usually look like this:

Round corners near the USB port, 5.1 sound, no volume control, etc. Pretty simplistic.

Those w/ the CM119 chipset usually look like this:

You’ll notice too in that description it says “If you need Cheaper USB sound card, please visit my store and find product which Chipset is 6911”, which is probably what’s used in the other USB sound card. It would have more helpful if he had just said “this USB sound card uses the CM119 chipset”, but decided not to for some reason.

Granted, it's not a 100% guarantee, and I'd always prefer it actually said CM119 in the description (I always check), but if I was forced to make a decision without it be stated specifically, that's how I'd identify them. Of course, you can always ask the seller.

...Did anyone else get a check for this? I just got two checks from Newegg and I'm really confused. Every other rebate has been a prepaid gift card but now I get checks? No complaints; I prefer it this way. I just want to know why I got checks instead of cards.

Yes, they sent $8.99 and $9.99 checks for this and the Olympia Tools/i-Work T-Handle Racheting Screwdriver Set
