I had North Face Mens Vortex Triclimate Jacket + Denali Jacket a few years back (keep in mind that TNF quality have been declining year over year for a while now). I swapped the inner layers around and put different combinations together depending on the weather as the Denali was interchangeable with the midlayer that came with the Vortex.

The problem with the Denali is that it is heavy, does not wick moisture away very well, not very warm and worst of all not windproof. The Denali down jacket has a little bit of down (chest area?) so it might be a little warmer but it's still not going to block the wind (this is a big part of staying warm). Any physical activity you'll be drenched in sweat.

If you're looking for warmth, you'd be better off with one of their 800 fill down Jackets.

in for apex bionic, i always liked the style of this jacket and it's gotten good reviews from other sites. not bad on sale either, considering the generally high price for TNF...

Ok, thanks for opinion. Enuf for me to forego the purchase. Will look for an 800 fill down.

I just bought a Bionic jacket from SunnySports last week, awesome jacket! Very well made.

I went through all the women's small items (very picked over) for my wife and ended up with the Apex Bionic Jacket [6pm.com] for $100. Not 50% but I didn't feel like getting something that she wouldn't like just for the bigger discount. Thanks OP.

My personal recommendation is the Patagonia Down Sweater. If you look this time of the year you can pick one up for ~$100 (O2 Gearshop had a deal a few days ago)... Set a search alert. Also check your local REI.

And that would be good enough for the winter. Hate wearing layers. i saw them here on SD, but i wanted a jacket or coat thinking they would be warmer than a down sweater. Actually i never heard of a down sweater til the last sale.

I have a apex, a venture, and a Denali. The Denali is great but I get hot easy and the Denali makes me over heat unless its very cold outside. My apex gets used almost daily during spring and fall and all of winter. My venture I use for spring when it rains and also at the beginning of fall when it's not to cold.

In for the McMurdo Parka - what a great winter coat.

50% off for TNF is just a considerable price, imo.
