Deal Details

Update 4/24:

The Wall Street Journal just e-mailed me with subject "Your Gift for Subscribing to The Wall Street Journal" with a $50 GC. I have already applied the GC successfully to my Amazon account.

Meanwhile, http://wsj.com today is offering a $25 Amazon GC for subscribing to both digital & print editions. However, that $25 GC won't be delivered until 150 days after the initial payment. So the $50 GC deal we got in turned out to be a way better deal.

Update 4/23:

I am sorry if you have not received your GC. I am still waiting for mine too. I never heard back after e-mailing TheWallStreetJournal@e.wsjonline.info. The first time support@wsj.com said to wait 180 days. Then asked for screen shots. The third time support@wsj.com said:

Quote :
Thank you for contacting The Wall Street Journal Online regarding your gift card inquiry. We do apologize for all the delays. Your card does come to you straight from Amazon electronically. We have passed your request on to Amazon for further action.

Update 3/17:

Two more months for free, thanks ready2mosh and alp44.
http://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=58259458&postcount=240

Steps:
  • Visit http://wsj.com/starbucks
  • Because we have signed up already, click on "Already have username and password?", Continue. No need to sign up again, no need to enter code.

In Customer Center, your next payment date should show 8/x/2013.

Update 3/9:

The Wall Street Journal just e-mailed me with subject "Thank you for your recent order" that confirms:
Quote :
Your recent subscription order includes a $50 Amazon.com Gift Card. With an active paid subscription, your gift card will be delivered electronically 45 days from the date of purchase.
I think the date of purchase is 3/7. So if you have not canceled already, you should receive your $50 GC by around 4/21.
(After you Log In, in Customer Center, for WSJ Digital your STATUS should say Active. You paid $21.99 on 3/7. So you have an "active paid subscription".)

If you want to cancel:

I plan to enjoy my subscription for at least the next 3 months (I prefer and use Bing for all my searches, but I had to use google news search to read WSJ articles for free. Now I can skip google news.). If you want to cancel before the end of the 3-month trial period, please see:

http://online.wsj.com/public/page...ement.html
Quote :
4. Cancellation and Renewal. Your subscription will renew automatically, unless it is cancelled in accordance with this Section. For annual subscriptions, we will notify you of the pending renewal of your subscription at least 30 days prior to the date your subscription renews, except as otherwise required by law. For all subscriptions, you must cancel your subscription before it renews in order to avoid billing of subscription fees for the renewal term to your credit card. We may cancel your subscription at any time by notifying you. You may cancel your subscription by calling Customer Service at (800) 975-3913. We do not accept cancellations by mail or email or by any other means other than calling Customer Service.

Original post on 3/7:

If you visit http://wsj.com today, you get a banner. The banner leads to:

https://buy.wsj.com/shopandbuy/or...e=aap7bz1l

It says "Your credit card will be charged $21.99 for the first three months. . . ." At the bottom it says "This is a special offer made available for first time subscribers to The Wall Street Journal Digital Plus. Sales tax may apply."

I wish it says how soon I'd get the $50 Amazon GC. But it seems like a deal to buy a $50 Amazon GC for $22. What do you think?

My own thoughts: CSRs have been all over the place as to when I would receive the GC. But I think the offer is simple: "SUBSCRIBE TO WSJ & get a $50 Amazon.com Gift card." You just need to subscribe to WSJ to fulfill your part of the bargain; nowhere does it say how long you have to subscribe to WSJ for. The fact that you get 3 months when you pay the price of 1 is simply an added bonus. The added bonus is not an additional requirement. Nowhere does it say you have to pay for 3 months of subscription in order to get the Amazon GC.

I am relatively new to investing stocks and have been reading such sources as The Street, Kiplinger, Money, SmartMoney, etc. I have not read the WSJ before. Based solely on investing stocks, is WSJ worthwhile? Thanks for any opinions.

The digital subscription is definitely worth it. I only have the paper subscription and I often find myself wanting to access a WSJ article online when I am researching a company but do not have access.

The content is great, and I have really started to like their Opinion articles, too. It will be much more broad than The Street, Kiplinger, etc. but most of it is useful information when planning and implementing your investment strategy.

IMO for solely investing in stocks, probably not worthwhile, as with any news source about stocks you'd want to do your own research, calculations and your own formulas/algorithms. For general investing advice and news, i'd say it's definitely worth it. The articles tend to be well written.

I stopped reading the WSJ the second it was acquired by News Corp (AKA Fox News). It used to be a great read (family owned company, objective). Now it's been tainted. Repped for the card.

Wow if this is legit and you get the gift card in a timely manner, this deal is hotter than the sun.

Great newspaper, despite being owned by Fox News....just stay off of the editorials page. They might show their leanings in what they put on the front page and what they bury, but still a great newspaper.

This deal sounds promising, but I also smell the possibility for disaster.

Bought one. Thanks. Hope the GC comes and comes soon. How come the email confirmation doesn't say anything about the $50 Amazon GC?

Went for one subscription. Appears to be digital content only but that's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks OP!

I think you've both got it backwards,... news corp is the parent company of fox news, not the other way around...

you can't honestly think that fox news has any influence on news corps' crazy long list of other publishing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/News...n#Holdings
