i bought this way back for around 130 dollars, and then for 99 dollars on black friday as a backup one

A bigger thing to look at is specs on individual models. They may have different rpms or USB 3.0 vs. 2.0 speeds. Anybody saying that one is better than the other just because of the brand is talking out of their ass or has simply had bad luck with one or the other. It's like comparing Honda and Toyota cars. They are both highly reliable. ALSO: I'm using this exact drive connected to a USB 2.0 port on my SAMBA server and it streams HD content wonderfully to my client computers. what aspect are you looking for?
Speed? the controller (usb2.0, usb3.0) is important in this regards, with usb3.0 controller both Seagate/WD both average about 95-98MB/s. I transferred 2TB of data WD seem dipped lower to 85MB/s more often. Noise? WD has the fan run louder than Seagate.

I bought two of these internal when Newegg had them for $89.
Bought an external exact this one at Staples for $85after coupons and cashbacks. Got another one yesterday for $99 on Amazon Lightning deal. These are great. Same exact drive on the inside. I have Windows 8 with storage space with double redundancy. Slowly pulling all the 1TB and 2TB drives and replacing them with 3TB. This is still a good deal since there's no limit to how many you can buy. |

Does anybody know what the Expansion Series actually means? It seeems to me that really the only thing that makes a drive is capacity, rpm, and cache. So I always get confused by what the difference is between differes series of the same brand when the capacity/cache/rpm are the same.
