Thanks OP. Been looking for a second monitor after Best Buy upped the price to 220 again.
I must say the DVI connection is very tight. I bought a HDMI to DVI cable from Monoprice and the cable portion that connects to the monitor is bent at an uncomfortable angle. Mostly thanks to an unnecesary angle of the monitor enclosure and a cable management thing.
Don't even try using a HDMI to DVI adapter, it doesn't fit, it has to be a cable with a DVI end
Is this good for photo editing? Yes this is a serious question, buying for someone else and don't know the specifics personally
It depends how serious of photo editing. If its just family pictures and everyday work then yes, definitely. If theyre trying to make professional prints then probably not. This screen is only 8-bit, and not even real 8-bit, so color accuracy isnt the best. That said, its still miles better than any cheapo TN panel you would get.
Another note, this screen is glossy, more of a personal preference thing but i dislike glossy screens for photo editing. The dell U2312HM has a similar panel but is matte.
For more serious photo work, the next level up would be the U2410 which has a 10-bit panel but thats significantly more expensive at ~400
