They just updated the TF300 to Android 4.2.1 as of a few days ago.

It's running very fast now. Definitely a solid budget tablet in the $200 range.

The cool thing about having a TF300 is ASUS usually pushes out Android OS updates to it first. I think that's because the TF300 has a similar hardware profile to the Nexus 7, except for the 10.1 inch screen.

When this is $289.99 free shipping new at places like Adorama or B&H, is getting a refurb for $65 less worth the risk? I am thinking about pulling the triiger, but unsure.

That's not true. Only 3 out of 16 reviews indicated issues. 2 were DOA and 1 said their tablet was "beat up."

These are factory refurbs, so I think the risk would be pretty minimal. Newegg is pretty fair about exchanges too if you would have any issues.

I think a lot more people complain than leave positive reviews, especially on refurb items. Most of the stuff I've gotten from Newegg has been in "like-new" condition if it's a refurb or open-box.

Good deal if you have bad eyesight and can really use the 10" screen. Personally, I think 10" tablets are a bit large and only makes sense if it's higher res. Even then, dropping a 10" inch tablet on your face while using it bed is painful.

I'm of the other mindset.. I have a Nexus 4 and would just as soon use it instead of a 7" tablet since the resolutions are the same. The resolution is the same on this as well but the extra screen size is nice. 10" seems to be the perfect size for my use at least.
