And it's not even an adapter, per-se, it's just a converter (just a cable connection). I picked up on from Monoprice.. and put it.. in a.. drawer. :-)

The only thing I would say is that if you're willing to have it weigh a pound or two more and you don't mind it being slightly larger (but still 14"), the t430 has a very slightly larger keyboard and (at least potentially) a higher display resolution. That said, I have an x230 because I really did care about the size and weight.

Good price, but that ad won't show for me at the link given, and when entering the coupon code I'm told it is not valid. Dead?

how do you pick the IPS display for the x230? how does the weight/form compare to the zenbook prime?

also, is SSD/RAM easily installed?

This doesn't seem like a super slick deal... the X230 pops up for around $550-650 with IPS display every few months.
Not to mention you can get them in the outlet if you're lucky for around $400-500.
For example, back in December it was $560 for an X230 with IPS.

That being said I love my X200T I got for $350 on ebay. Once you go trackpoint, you never go back. I wish more laptops had trackpoints, and I wish there was an option to get rid of the useless trackpad. The only thing stopping me from getting any other laptop is no trackpoints.

I snagged a "used" E430 from Cowboom earlier in the week. It looks brand new, not even a smudge on it. I saw another one today for $217 but it was an auction. I really don't know if I could justify spending an extra $200 for the same laptop plus a better warranty, but either way it's a great budget laptop.

No 15" IPS is always a bummer

Because every TV, monitor and projector in America has mini display port instead of HDMI? Most companies have budget monitors. Budget monitors only have VGA, HDMI and/or DVI.

The deal is decent. TU in my estimation.

However, I HATE the rough touchpads on the current line of Thinkpads. From the surface texture, to the poor precision (even with driver tinkering), to the dumb integrated clicky buttons, they are AWFUL. I'm not really a trackpoint guy, so having a half-decent touchpad matters to me. I love everything about these well-built computers except the trackpads. They are so bad that it's a deal breaker for me.

C'mon Lenovo!

2560 x 1440 monitors tend to have a Display Port connection ( just use mini to normal size cable).
I would assume people who buy ThinkPads buy other expensive things like a 2560 x 1440 resolution monitor.
