Do Republicans "win" by destroying the reputation of government?

I don't think anybody wins except for the short-term interests of the special interests they represent. Letting hedge fund managers maintain their 20% tax rates is their idea of "looking out for the little guy."
Every reasonable person knows that we need tax increases and spending cuts. Just one look at the numbers shows this. Last edited by Rebound; 03-07-2013 at 12:54 PM.. |

the only people destroying the reputation of government are the democrats with their runaway spending, Obama's ridiculous claims about 2% reductions in increases being Armageddon, when he JUST SIGNED a 2% increase in taxes on EVERYONE, the nanny-state democrats with their never-ending list of government-run programs and bureaucracies that everyday we hear are rife with waste, fraud, and corruption, and democrat-led programs that encourage unproductivity and punish success.
![]() The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But under the name of 'liberalism',they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened - Norman Thomas,6-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America The federal government has taken too much tax money from the people, too much authority from the States, and too much liberty with the Constitution - R. I think its funny that by making more transparent the workings of government it's viewed as 'destroying the reputation' of it.
"What? There's a deadline for a decision to be made? The horror!" There's a reason the first things getting cut are the most visible and often the most cherished by people. It's because this IS the reputation of government. If you cut something from it, they will make sure you feel it. |

Which would amount to a ~$2K tax increase on $1M income or about 0.2%. The other parts of your rant are similarly false or unsubstantiated opinion. |

"Transparency" does not enhance the reputation of an ugly process. |

Just because something is repugnant, doesn't mean people shouldn't know it's inner workings. Last edited by Danman114; 03-07-2013 at 01:47 PM.. |

If 0bama accomplishes nothing in his second term, it will be great for the US. The less of his agenda he advances the better. "If an American is to amount to anything he must rely upon himself, and not upon the State; he must take pride in his own work, instead of sitting idle to envy the luck of others. He must face life with resolute courage, win victory if he can, and accept defeat if he must, without seeking to place on his fellow man a responsibility which is not theirs.” --- Theodore Roosevelt

I'm confused. The reputation of government based on the way it functions is inefficient, wasteful, and violent. And this is at its best. I'm not saying we abolish government, as we certainly want it for securing our rights. On the other hand, it has been justly described as a necessary evil.
So, given that the reputation of government is bad, wouldn't destroying that reputation mean making is seem good? Therefore making anyone who calls the government good the destroyer of its reputation. Or are you talking about degrees of bad? "Government is worse because a (insert D or R) is in charge!" Because history has shown that either party, when in charge, is very happy to grow and use the government. Or, in the current situation, they both seem to be making the most of slowed growth and using the government. |

this is proving my point. we are dealing with anarchists here, who will stop at nothing until no trace of society remains.
Rumble, young man, rumble. These are interesting times we live in. Punctuation is key. Fruit is nature's candy.
