There's a way to do it using a cell phone. Port number to a pre-paid cell phone, and from there port it to google voice. http://support.google.com/voice/b...er=1065667

I've had the phantom message problem with an obi110 - it could be an unread text message rather than firmware.

dial ***6 from the phone connected to the OBi202. The announcement will let you know if there is an update. If there is, press 1 and hang-up. Your OBi will automatically update and restart in about 2-3 minutes. Alternatively, if you are logged-in to OBiTALK and see a yellow triangle to the right of your OBi device, you may click on the yellow triangle to start the automatic update.

Now my Ooma has a light delay and it looks common. I wonder if this Obi has a delay.

You can pay google a fee to port into google voice. Then use google voice with Obi. Don't remember how much it is, I think $10 or so.

$20 to port number into GV and be locked. $3 to unlock number from GV and port out.

GV will only allow cellphone numbers to be ported in. so if you have a landline (POTS or VOIP) you have to port the number to a prepaid cell (t-mobile) first and then to GV. this has something to do with GV operating as a hybrid cell company.

I've purchased 0bi100 and then this 202. I have sold 100 later. But I guess I need 110 since I want to connect my ooma and obi together.. which 202 wont support.
So, dont buy 202 without establishing any need for its features for your situation

If you want to save some on taxes/fees. Using Google Voice on the OBi is 100% free (for now at least). Although I'd go for the OBi100 unless you really need the features of the OBi202.

for those that dont know the obi100/110 allows up to 2 SIPs and the Obi202 allows up to 4 SIPs.

obi line 1 dial **1 + number (default)

obi line 2 dial **2 + number

Ooma dial **8 + number

If your number is on a mobile device, port it to Google Voice. Then setup GV to be one of your (up to) 4 VOIP providers. Call and receive calls at your number on the Obi device via GV.

If your number is a land-line, port it first to a mobile phone (use something like the free prepaid T-mobile sim kit that comes up from time to time). Port your land line number to the mobile phone (pick up any compatible prepaid mobile phone compatible with the prepaid kit you choose from ebay for cheap, you only need it for a short time). Then, port your number to Google Voice from your now mobile device (GV will not port a land-line number yet). You should be able to do this for under $35 including the cheap prepaid phone, free/cheap prepaid sim kit, and the $20 fee to port a number to GV).

The other perk is that your phone number is no longer tied to a device, you can "point" your GV number virtually anywhere as your devices, location change.

with t-mobile its free to port your number over. there are 2 ways. first, on the website directly (i.e. no temp number). second, call t-mobile after activating and getting the temp number and have them port it.

im going thru all this right now with a real (POTS) landline porting to t-mobile.

I just bought this last week for $72 from Amazon, I bet it won't be easy to get a price adjustment without returning / rebuying it.

It is a good device though and I did the port into Google Voice as well, it costs $20. It feels good to be able to finally stick it to my cable company and cancel service for their $30 / month phone plan.

call and try, if they say no, then try and bargain with them by saying it would be a lot less trouble for everyone if they just refund the difference.

btw, i feel the same way about firing att finally.
