Only Panda seems to be certified for Windows 8, while AVG and Kaspersky say XP - Win7. I would have preferred Kaspersky if it is for Windows 8.

nope, when I found out, I did a research and turns out there's a bug in their program and they were trying to fix it. As soon as I removed Kaspersky, my computer was back to lightening fast again.

I support most of the larger suites at clients - Norton, ESET, AVG, Avast, Trend, Kaspersky, MSE - and we officially resell many - and have concluded the only effective antivirus agent is the one sitting in front of the keyboard. Invariably, 85% of my malware removal tasks occur on machines (that were) running one of the major antivirus suites. Malware simply evolves too quickly these days for antivirus software to be effective. Add in the constant dulling of the computers performance edge, and the innumerable bad updates pushes that lead to unbootable machines (almost all of the antivirus software suites have been guilty of this), and I honestly tell clients they are better served using basic internet/email gateway security and dealing with malware ad hoc. The expense/benefit is no longer in favor of buying antivirus software.

The reason it still gets bought - nobody got fired because they *DID* get antivirus software. The head of I believe Symantec themselves mentioned after huge known failures such as Stuxnet that the current model of antivirus protection is of questionable value.

What do you think these programs deal with on a daily basis? Virus writing is dead - it's all about malware - ransomware/exploitware/harvestware/botware. It's all about the money, not infecting your Excel macro with a "virus".

Please direct me to where the grownups are talking as I don't believe a grownup would actually complain about a program that OBVIOUSLY uses system resources to do its job. You know what else uses system resources the OPERATING SYSTEM, so just go ahead and remove your O/S as well if you're going to be a toolbag.....

By chance does anyone have a copy of the upc for AVG AntiVirus 2013 3pc (UPC 814949011986)? I submitted a rebate for AVG software that was not the correct AVG product and I am being asked to submit my copies to newegg.com. Please let me know if you can help.

just a reminder for anyone who purchased Kaspersky - you need to send in the ENTIRE BOX BOTTOM FLAP, not just the UPC.

I realized that and found it a bit odd. I cut off the entire box bottom and mailed it in.

I just got my email confirmation for the AVG Mail-In rebate: 'Invalid: AVG AntiVirus + PC TuneUp 2013 Missing UPC'. I call bullsh*t!
Anybody else get this/know what I can do?

chat with rebate dept at rebateshq.com. The rep can see your submission as they scan them. If there is no UPC there, you are SOL and they will ask you to resubmit.
