CrashPlan question...OS reinstall
I have my OS and programs on my SSD drive C:My data is on an HDD Z: For reasons I need not get into, I need to reinstall OS and programs on SSD. I am trying to avoid having CrashPlan start my ~200 GB cloud backup (of the Z: drive data) from scratch. There appears to be an "Adopting another computer" option: http://support.crashplan.com/doku...redirect=1 ...but I am unclear if this fits what I need. Any advice on what I need to do to just reinstall crashplan and have it continue as it does now would be appreciated. I have no need to restore any data as it hasn't gone anywhere. Also, are my backup settings saved to the cloud or will I need to select what to backup all over again. Sorry if I am all over the place on this. FWIW I sent in a support request and they say it will be 1-2 business days, so I figured there might be an expert here.

It looks like you are on the correct path.
Clean install Install Crash Plan on SSD Adopt new computer Just be careful with settings in "Delete files retention" to make sure CrashPlan does not see the missing files on your new SSD as meaning you wanted to delete them. BTW... another reason I don't trust cloud stuff for anything other than non-critical items. |

If the data is critical, I have it in triplicate. The cloud would just be an added bonus, assuming you like online storage, but I wouldn't consider it one of the 3 copies. |

In every other case, a local drive backup is just a lot more reliable, faster, and secure. |
