OBI 110 Connection questions.

I have an Obi 110 Voice Service Bridge (Google Voice). I want it to live in a room that does not have wired Ethernet cabling. I don't want to buy the Obi wireless access point unless deemed necessary because I can't use existing hardware.

My PC (adjacent to Obi) gets internet access via a wireless access point, so the Ethernet adapter is not used and available.

Question: is there any reason why I can't set up the PC's wireless network for sharing, and run a CAT-5 patch cable from PC to Obi? If feasible, will the Obi need a crossover cable or conventional cable?

Any other creative suggestions are welcome!

Should work, but remember that your computer will need to be on for the connected device to use the internet connection. Probably a regular cable, but if you know what a crossover cable is I'm sure you have at least one conventional Ethernet cable lying around that you can use to try it out.

If you don't want it connected to the PC for whatever reason, you can buy a wireless bridge or set up an old router as a bridge, then run a cable from the bridge to the Obi.

this would be your better way to use the obi110 wireless.

also it you get a stutter dial tone and new messag eon the phone but there are not any new messages that means there is a firmware update.
