Quote from HardOCP : Samsung claims that the TLC 840 Series SSDs perform with just as low of a power threshold as the 840 Pro. Reason dictates that this is not possible due to the fact that TLC will have a higher P/E voltage requirement. The voltages we recorded with the 500GB TLC 840 are higher than the 840 Pro across the board. Overall this high voltage is to be expected with the nature of TLC NAND, which requires more power for Program/Erase cycles, and the sheer amount of NAND on the SSD. The random write voltage was unsurprisingly very high, and the sequential write voltage requirement is also on the high end. Even with these relatively 'fresh' readings we feel that this would not be the best SSD for mobile applications. |

as has been said many times before. Samsung replaced 830 series with 840 at around same price point BUT is using different chips in the 840 series that supposedly are lower rated than the chips used in the 830 series. Do I have that right guys?
It is easier to ask for foregiveness than permission
and flavour of the day......greedy bastards "We can't continue to have a system where Wall Street executives privatize the gains and then socialize the losses. Accountability needs to be a two-way street," update let's toast the executives at AIG for doing such a great job by granting them bonuses.......absolute crap and again no accountability..... |

Chip manufacturer list their specs for their flash chip and write limit is one of it. MLC used to have 5000 write limits where the flash chips were produced with the >35nm process. Once chip manufacturers like Intel/Samsung transition over to the <35nm process, write limit got reduced. The 25nm that current MLC drives use have around 3000 write limits. http://www.storagerevi Last edited by tenchir; 03-08-2013 at 11:59 AM.. |

Great price! I am just waiting for the $260 shipped price and im in for 2 (desktop and laptop). I would of got this but my 128gb M4 drive still strong.
To people who think TLC is "less reliable" doesn't know what they are talking about. They are just as reliable but doesn't last as long based on how many times data is written on it over and over. Keep in mind that for the average person, these could last anywhere from 5-10 years easily. It's not about reliability. It's about LONGEVITY people are worried about and I am not worried about that at all. After 5 years... I am sure technology will be much different. Average person = surfing the net and streaming videos here and there. Unless you are working through data 12 hours a day download/encoding or whatever takes up HD space, the 2-5 year life span may be true but still far fetched. |
