ebay lost auction email - did not bid
i just received an ebay email for lost auction on a dc power adapter. the email looks real, even with my ebay name and my real name at the bottom.i havent purchased anything on ebay for a couple of weeks since that set of cheap 3.5 audio cables. thinking either the email is a phishing attempt or an ebay glitch i closed the browser out. then i reopened the browser and tried to log into my ebay account, but i couldnt. i was on the verge of freaking out so i started to reset the password and then stopped after i received the reset password email cause i realized that i was using the wrong password. so once i was logged into my ebay account i went to my ebay and looked but nothing was out of the ordinary. so, was that email just and ebay glitch or possibly a phishing attempt by one of people/places that i have ordered from in the past? whats trending right now >>> Slickdeals Live View Feed TWC charging $3.95 to lease their cable modem - buy your own modem discussion if someone steals food from your lunch in the refrigerator at work, just make some yummy tempting cookies with laxatives in them. then just wait to see who gets the runs! that person wont ever steal anything from your lunch ever again!!! It's okay OP. I've bid on things when I was drunk too.
Mostly I buy things on Amazon because of stupid one-click, but ebay saves me money because most of the time I don't win whatever random crap I thought would have been a "great idea" to get that exact second.

Here's a legit "You lost" email from an item back on Jan 30th. I would compare your email to see if it's legit. Some key identifiers are your ebay username + real names in the right places. The Don't miss out and great picks section and email reference id are good to review.

If your using Gmail turn on this, All authentic emails will be "Signed" http://mashable.com/2009/07/13/gm...ypal-ebay/
Assuming your still worried about your account turn on 2 factor authentication and change passwords. Also make sure your reset questions are not easily researched. Sound like phising to me - I've been hit with those in the past. Email headers are easily forged.
Important thing to look for are the links WITHIN the email - hover on any links that should go back to ebay & check the domain names. If it ends with ANYTHING other than 'ebay.com/' then it's a phisher. If so, forward it on to spoof at ebay.com so they can get it taken down. |

update - ebay wrote back and said the email was indeed a spoof phishing attempt. Last edited by ReverseHandedJO; 03-10-2013 at 06:31 PM.. |
