![]() Being smart with one's money would be to snatch up a PS3 on the cheap and buy a bucketload of phenomenal games that are just now showing us what the PS3 can do...and at rock-bottom prices. However, if one would rather cough up 4 times as much to purchase an unproven machine at launch that will offer but a few craptastic games that barely outperform their sibling counterparts, I suppose there's "logic" in that, right? For those that disagree, go put a launch title like NBA '07 in your 360 and tell me how it compares to what's out today. Ready to be "dazzled" by the future yet? Ready to invest your life's savings?

Second, your theory is valid, but only if a person literally held out seven years (pretty sure that's how long the PS3 has been out) before buying their first PS3. In today's day and age, there are definitely people that waited, but it's a miniscule proportion. The analogies you used, for the most part, are important staples in a person's life (eg. food, clothing, computer). They don't apply to luxury items, like a game console. For those that really can't afford to buy a PS4, I guess buying at the end of the PS3 effective (note the word "effective") life cycle makes sense, but those are probably the same people that drive a car that's 20 years old. Sure it may work, but it definitely won't be as enjoyable (or safe) as a current generation item. I sold my PS3 several months ago because I knew I was going to get either a PS4 or XBOX 720/3 (whatever they decide the official name will be) and I knew I could capitalize on higher resale value. After it was all said and done, I waited one year to get my PS3 after it's release, paid $250 for it (thank you Amazon BF sale), and sold it for $220 (granted, I did do incremental upgrades, but reselling netted me literally a $0 loss). I would recommend to hold off on a PS3, wait for the PS4, and buy when you can afford it so that you can get a longer use out of it. There's really no point in spending $140+tax to get last gen's hardware + games + controller (in most cases), since that's going to put you over $200 easy. I *guess* if you're in such dire financial circumstances it might make sense, but then why waste money on a game console anyways? |
