20 years ago I was interested in this style of gun for home protection. Go to the gun show at the fairgrounds with a friend who knows guns... I review a couple of them, find one of some style I like - it was 8 shot like this one. I review a Mossberg Maverick from another vendor and it is a 6 shot. I'm thinking out loud and mentioning the shell count difference - and the vendor says, "if you haven't hit them in 6 shots, you'd better throw it down & run". I put my cash on the table...
Regarding shell sequence, it was suggested to me that the first 3 are pellets - scatter for a target in the distance, precision aim not as critical. The next 3 are slugs in case the intruder is still approaching, he's closer so easier to hit - and needing knockdown power. I hope I never have to use it - but agreed with the vendor; ideally just the sound of the slide action is enough of a deterrent for an intruder.
I have the persuader version of this model - it comes with a heat shield - about the only difference -- but holy cow - with apistol grip - firing virtually anything literally beats the heck out of the wrists - i went to the range a few weeks ago and fired 5 rounds of mine and my wrists were sore for a couple of days ... but man for a home defense weapon you can beat it .. small - compact - easy to cary - and you don't really have to worry about that pesky little aiming issue that folks have in the middle of the night when its dark and some idiot that just broke in is running at you .. just point and shoot .. LOL
Are you looking to fight off a group of commandos?
That's an annoying argument about semi auto weapons with high capacity mags. I was in the California Natl Guard during the Rodney King riots 20 years ago, I saw what happens when the police decide to withdraw and the mobs run wild. The businesses that weren't burned to the ground were the ones that had armed owners on the roof... And frankly, an 8-shot pump action shotgun would have felt very inadequate in that situation. A SPAS-12 with a nice big mag would have been my first choice for that situation. I wouldn't feel safe with ANY firearm unless I had at least 3-4 HIGH CAPACITY mags. As for the sound of the a shotgun being pumped, yes it's an intimidating sound, but when you're dealing with determined attackers, that sound will not save your life. Lots of ammo will.

I don't know... if I lived in LA, I'd want something even more serious than SPAS-12. You never know if it's riots or a bunch of crazed COPS shooting up the neighborhood looking for their ex-member.
