My non-MM Total Defense rebate from BF worked out ok and I was willing to jump on last Total Defense MM. I won't be doing this one since I already submitted the $50 rebate but I think these are just as reliable as any other rebates processed by 4MyRebate. They're probably slower than the Tiger Direct ones but if you follow the directions you'll get your money.
I wrote about my experience with my first Total Defense rebate in a previous thread:
They ask for the activation code (which is basically a product key) when you submit the rebate. It's requested instead of an order number when you fill out the online form and they also ask for you to include it in you paper submission.
You can pretty much use any CC when you activate. A rebate card is probably a good idea but they will put a $1 pre-auth on it. Also their shitty system doesn't handle spaces in CC numbers (and Citi's virtual number generator includes them when you copy the number for some dumb reason).
I got the software from TigerDirect on black friday to get free shipping (should have just joined IC a month earlier). I activated it with a Citi virtual number, canceled renewal, and mailed the rebate at the beginning of December. It was received at the middle of the month and wasn't approved by the end of January. I called 4MyRebate and said it was taking longer than their other rebates. After looking it over the rep connected me to TDI support. They looked over my submission, mentioned that it was activated but not installed (oh, it's for <family member>'s PC, I'll check on that...um thanks...anyway for this it only needs to be activated...) (it was more of the rep talking themself through the process than saying it was a problem--I should have just kept my mouth shut), and approved it. Everything was good from there.
I think the delay was from TDI telling 4MyRebate to take forever rather than an issue with canceling renewal or not installing the software.
If anyone else has done TDI rebates I'm interested in hearing how long they take.
I would be cautious of trying this. I work at a retailer that sells these and the unlimited is $10 a month subscription you have to buy and get the first 3 months free with the package. So if you are going to buy and cancel make sure to do it in the first three months
4myrebate has denied the rebate saying the "UPC missing". I have taped the UPC to the registration form. They removed the UPC from the registration form and scanned the documents which is clearly visible. I have the scanned copy for my records. Cant believe that they removed the UPC and say "Missing UPC". I am losing $120 here..
