I've gone crazy. Ordered a pair of 180's and a 120center. Total $305.97 after the VMEPROMOMAR13 promo code. Code saved me 34 bucks, which is what pushed me over the edge to order. Thanks, jcjcace for the heads up...or should I be blaming you...lol. Looks like my Polk Monitor 50 SII are going back to side surround duty in my rec-room. Not sure what fate the CS1 will have....maybe cast to craigslist.

For what it's worth, toptenreviews website have the Studio 180 rated quite a bit higher than the ES80. 7.85 compared to 5.75.

You can't go wrong with Yamaha receivers. I had the 471 for a while and enjoyed it.

Got my JBL 180's and 120c today. Hooked up the 180's and right away noticed a vibration noise while listening to "Heaven Nor Hell" by Volbeat. At first I thought it was something near the speaker vibrating on the stand it sits next to. Finally figured out it was coming from within the cabinet of the speaker. Sounded like it was coming from the area of the mid-range speaker, which I believe JBL touts as being in it's own enclosure within the cabinet. The other speaker didn't make the exact same type of noise, but did make a slight rattle noise when deeper bass notes were hit, again from the same area where the mid-range speaker is located.

Contacted Newegg by phone and the rep was very nice and issued the RMA with return shipping labels sent to my email. Full refund, and no return shipping charge. Never even opened the center channel. The speakers had a nice sound to them, but vibrations and rattles in the cabinet right out of the box is unacceptable. My Polk Monitor 50 SII that these were going to replace sound very similar and are rock solid. Lesson learned......stick with Polk.

I had the opposite experience - mine arrived in great shape with no rattle, being pushed pretty well both by music and movies. I met the UPS truck and took the boxes the last 100' to prevent that "end of route drop". I wouldn't put any loose parts on JBL per se as a I'm sure there is a certain confidence level the designers aimed for with respect to shipping survivability.

Past that statement, the speakers sound great, but I'm listening in isolation as that I don't have anything else right now to do a direct side-by-side test. So YMMV.

For the $129.99 - $13.00 for the V.me promo - a steal. And they're back at that price. When these speakers were at this same price (granted, in a combo) a year ago, it was a frontpage deal. The 120C really improved my movie experience (I had a Polk RM6750 set previously); and I'm listening to FLAC files constantly now via my media server.

I bet you have some internal noise and you just haven't noticed it yet. Certain songs didn't have a problem. It's with certain notes that the vibration noise could be heard. Put on some thumping bass and turn it up a little, then put your ear close to the cabinet at mid-range speaker level. I bet you hear a slight rattle from the enclosure. Seems like a poor design and the speakers in general looked very cheap. I wouldn't be able to recommend these to anybody who was looking for tower speakers.

I am torn between JBL ES 80, JBL Studio 190, Polk 65T and Sony SF7000 for fronts. They all come in $130-$150 price range. Not Sure which one is best among them, was not able to find any comparison from any good source. My first preference is ES80, they look solid and have good reviews on amazon. Any Help ??

Nope, no rattle.

That being said, the vinyl woodgrain does indeed look pretty cheap. Then again, vinyl woodgrain looks cheap regardless of the cost paid.

Well I hope they work out for you. Just be sure to check them again before your return window is closed. They did sound pretty good from what I heard from them, but those flaws in my pair were unacceptable.

Sony's are crap. i dont know what person in right might think about purchasing sony speakers (coming from a person who owns 90% sony gadgets from TV's to Computers to clock radio)
