I don't know much about CPU architecture in those days, let alone in the past 10 years. I guess it's all semantics of how everyone is defining a "core". I can't verify Intel's i-series if they contain an FPU in each core but I'm assuming they do. And yes you don't need an FPU since you can "simulate" those calculations in the ALU but obviously slower. Or you can offload those calculations in the GPU. From reading that wikipedia page on Bulldozer, looks like pipeline is "shorter" for each core while sharing certain things like the FPU you've suggested. So really it's semantics on what is a "core"-- seems like articles like Tom's Hardware considers the A-series a pseudo core since it requires more "sharing" when compared to Intel's. Pretty neat stuff and educational either way-- makes for great SDs too! |

But they "should" be contained in each "core".Reading the wikipedia page again, it does seem like there are two FPU pipelines (1 for each "core") which can be unified. But then I read the part where the module "couples" the two x86 processing engines. I'm assuming that it means there is only one pipeline (fetch/decode) along with certain resources like cache shared by both engines (cores) rather than having them truly separate for each engine. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter since these Trinities are "improved" over the Llanos, regardless if they are using more of a shared architecture. My original points in this thread were comparing them to the Intel Pentium (non-i-Series)-based laptops, which come on SD regularly at the sub $300 price tag. Even these low end chips from Intel seem to outperform these new A-series chips across the board (non Graphics perspective). Hence I feel this is a decent deal for a laptop with this processor, but not spectacular, due to the availability of the cheaper Intel Pentium laptops under $300 OTD. But I guess any laptop under $300 OTD these days will always be considered a SD regardless of CPU! |

this toshiba satellite is worth 30 to 40 dollars? |

K-10 Stat will not work for Trinity processors. Brazos Tweaker works for them. To reduce heat issues, undervolt about .25 or so volts, and battery life would improve a little. To bring the Win 7 Star button and menu back, look for Win 7 shell (free) to get the familiarity back while still using Win 8. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Is this better than the Toshiba for basic use. I'm not familiar with newer gen AMD processors. I've always bought intel ones.
