Man, they reply quick for being in Hong Kong, 12 hours ahead!

Thank you for further information.

Yes, this 12.7mm height sata connection universal caddy can swap UJ8D1 optical drive well.

I'll order one, it says it will take a week or so to get it.

After working on this for 2 hours with win8, I promptly had to search google for instructions for getting bios to let me boot from DVD and install win7 . Still searching for a few drivers, but must say win8 fails. I've already got a 'store' to get my apps, it's TPB, not the windows store front.

I don't get why people hate Windows 8 so much (I don't use it because I don't see any reason to pay for the upgrade when 7 works just fine), but I did use the beta for months and months and honestly, it's exactly the same with a silly new start menu. There are even free apps that give you the old start button back. I'd use it if it was a free upgrade, but I don't see any reason to pay for it. Also, I'm not 100% sure that the TPB versions have working activation methods yet so I haven't even bothered with them.

How did you make it? It should be $325 Plus TAX OFR OOP. Then you get $50 rebate.
yea, after tax and after rebate it comes out to 300 (275 with roughly $25 tax for me)

Anyone else have their optical drive turn on randomly? It's only makes the noise for about a second though. It usually happens when I switch between power plans... pretty weird. Any ideas?

Thanks much.... Please let me know if you upgrade to Win 8 pro and what driver the mic is.
Sorry for taking so long but I played with the mic over the weekend in Teamspeak and it appears to work fine.

How does this HP compare to this Toshiba? Seems like a better deal, but not sure about "New A6" vs "I3 processor". http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Toshi...8817842976

TIA!

This obviously didn't come with any CD's. Anybody know exactly how I would go about making an emergency disc to reinstall the OS and stuff should something happen to the hard drive?

Edit: Never mind, found this (yeah I know, should have googled first):

I'll check it out later to make sure it works. I'll leave this post up in case anybody else was wondering the same thing.....

I have a different model of HP G7 with A6-4400M that has Blu-ray drive. I'm too looking for drivers both 32 and 64-bit to run Windows 7 on it.

Side note: I moved the Blu-ray drive to put it on another HP A7 that has Quad core. Interestingly, after a few weeks, the Blu-ray encryption shut down for every Blu-ray movies (accessing data files are working). The region lock went zero even I manually set it back to region 1. I tried PowerDVD and Total Media Theater 5 and both refused to get pass what is blocking it. I even have two different copies of Windows 7 running on this laptop and neither will get pass the Blu-ray encryption. On Blu-ray, the region lock is stored on software movie player, not the hardware in the drive.

Eventually without any success, I moved the Blu-ray drive back to the original HP that came with it and the problem disappeared. Is it possible the Blu-ray drive has somekind of pairing with the host PC to prevent it from moved to another PC? I know PS3 has such lock.

I don't know about the bluray drive. I did eventually find most of the drivers at HP, and the rest at RealTek for the card reader and I think the network drivers.

But there are numerous problems with BR drives in laptops. Some people have no problems, others do. RMA if it's still under warranty.
