Ah ordered a couple from Newegg for $109 and was lamenting but this comes out to $106 after tax, so whatever.....

Yeah tax kills it. I am still holding out for $33.3/TB

Ive been using 1 internal and 1 external of those early seagate 1.5 TB for 4.5 years and its still working fine (via serial it was not one of those affected drives from years back though)... but I do keep a fan on the external so it doesnt get hot....I think its all about luck... some drives last some dont...across all manufactures... but heat for external drives I think often can cut years off your drives life.... I have another 10 or so drives (deskstar I think they care, WD elements etc... all are going strong after a few years of use...but again I keep a desktop fan on them to keep them nice and cool)

I am not sure about the internal but the external had a 5 yr warranty (too bad they dont do that kind of warranty anymore)...plus 1 year added from my credit card... gotta love that extra year warranty most credit cards give these days....

Neither, the problem most often is probably heat. The enclosure is small, no fan, in hot climates or heavy use heat builds up. Put a fan on it or open it up. Even when the plastic is barely warm drive is hot. It's a 7200rpm drive, i wouldn't put it inside a computer case that didn't have a drive bay fan. The case / drive seems solid they just should have put a fan in there or more passive cooling or something.

I'm using both of mine as internals, raid1 maybe. Hopefully they're easy to open as the previous ones. Now where did I leave that spatula.

ive taken apart 6 of them. my niece broke the board on one of them. looking for an identical replacement board, but theyre hard to come by, and dunno what part to look for on ebay either.

Was this in stock for a little bit today? Up until 12:15pm or so I couldn't add it to my cart. Then when I got home around 2PM I was able to get it into my cart but then it disappeared. Now on the regular page it doesn't say out of stock, but if you click on add to cart to check price it says it's out.

Edit: IE now says out of stock but firefox doesn't.

Back in stock, got one!

Unfortunately couldn't use my staples gift card, maybe I can get a family member to give me face value.

Am waiting for the last round of staples to kick in before i make the purchase for this drive. This drive will be going in my desktop pc.

Question though. I couldn't find the link for the $40 off $80 coupon that someone mentioned to be on the bottom left side of staples.com
