Only 90 day warranty
Reviews of this opener report that the "3 year warranty" for parts or the "10 year warranty" on the motor, requires paying for a service call ($65 to $165 were reported) to have a technician come to your home to "confirm" something is broken, even something that could easily be sent it, such as a remote control. To quote a review "The wall controller is junk!! When it fails, and it will, Sears won't honor their 3 year parts warranty. The controller will cost you $81.49 and Sears won't warranty anything without charging you a minimum $65 charge to have a technician come out." Please don't support companies that treat customers like this, or at least realize you're only really getting a 90 day warranty. |

Why would I need a battery backup for my garage door opener?
Oh crap honey the power is out, what will the kids do for entertainment? Just have them go play with the garage door opener, it's the only electronic device that we have that has battery backup! Seriously though, if the power is out, I pull the cord and lift the door. Unless your are disabled or old, I don't get it. |

for some elderly folks, opening the door by hand could potentially damage their back, and even kill them.
this guy down the street tried to help the moving company with a box full of his treasure collection, the old gent hurt/broke his back, went to ER, never made into his new home, and RIP can this units remote control be used for a genie opener?

You pull what cord? You're in your car outside the house, the garage door is locked down by the opener and you don't carry keys to your front door in your car. Just because something doesn't make sense to you that doesn't mean it isn't sensible and desired by others. As far as battery backups in homes they are all over the place. Sump pumps, garage door openers, HVAC systems, fire/smoke alarms, etc. |

The Garage open itself is great but the controller is junk. I had it replaced under warranty I though until it failed again against the original warrenty time. The lights are also an issue but seem to be an issue on my past Sears openen that I wired to bulb sockets mounted to the ceiling above the opener. This is something you MUST get the exteneded warranty if you purchase!
