I just spent several weeks watching all 7 seasons of Buffy for free via Amazon Prime on my Roku - love that show. Hard to believe it ended more than 10 years ago. Just starting on Angel now (also free to stream if you have Prime). It's much darker than Buffy, and if I remember correctly, it sort of jumps the shark when they go into the alternate dimension. However, the characters are well developed and the writing can be excellent.

For the most idiotic thing I've read this year. And I read a lot of dumb stuff... |

The movie (Serenity) wraps all the big stuff up in a good way though. There is a little bit they left open to expand on just in case they got picked up for another movie, but you will feel satisfied with the ending when the movie credits roll. |

The concept of combining low-tech with sci fi isn't unique to Firefly. I can think of at least three authors that I've read that detail colonization of planets, in which the colonists resort to low(er) tech in order to deal with resource issues while settling the world they've chosen to inhabit. Many sci fi authors include the economics of technology as part of their story, and it often takes colonists generations to return to the same level of sophistication. It seems many authors include the inner planets vs. outer planets story Whedon developed for Firefly. It makes sense, since it's likely worlds would be colonized in (more or less) a circular fashion, and the wealth and power would probably be concentrated in the inner hub. Regarding his criticism of Malcolm Reynolds, I suppose it's fair to say he had a rather strong personality. Many of the fans of the show, myself included, enjoyed the character for this very reason. Tastes vary, of course. I don't need to address the comment about Angel, other than to say there isn't much in the way of logic involved with that statement. |

This is a great television show. It's the number one show that I wish I could bring back. Thanks for posting, Browncoat.
