I got the refurb a while ago (early 2012) and it came with the hood and case.

This is pretty much Canon's sharpest and fastest zoom lens at this range. You can't go wrong.

Soooo close to pulling the trigger. Anyone know if this lens come with the hood/carry case? I know the original new version does.
It does. 30 day warratny, but it is as good as new.

tax really kills this deal. After tax the price is $1,807.23 for a refurb 90 day lens. A brand new version is $2086 on amazon after 2% rewards and a 1 year warranty, a difference of $280. Essentially you're paying a dollar a day more in order to get a brand new lens. Also, I am unsure if the refurb lens comes with the hood and case.
two years if your credit card doubles your warranty.

I almost feel bad for photographers who sit in the endzone or on the baseline in a basketball game and get pummeled by a 6'7 260 monster of a human being. But its their fault for standing/sitting there. At least I know that a $1,700 lens might have been broken when that puny cameraman was ran into. Man, $1,700!! The lens mind as well come with a knife too to stab anyone that comes near it. LMAO

14 day return and 90 days warranty from the date you receive the lens in your hand or when package is dropped off at your doorsteps via Fedex. It'll always be a signature required package and ships from Grayslake, IL usually next business day you order. This lens specifically comes in a large carboard brown box and not a whitebox unlike all other lenses.

No credit card will double the warranty to 2 years for refurbished items unless the original refurbished item carries 1 year like Apple, but again YMMV. Since this lens is manufacturer refurbished, people have asked CC companies and got 180 days. 1 year extreme YMMV and if you get 2 years, consider yourself very lucky for anybody to even honor the claim or even start talking about it.

Huh? This was a confusing post. Are you glad people get hurt and their equipment broke?

Maybe some people use it for basketball but for football games pros are using $7k-10k lenses, not this little guy.

Also this deal is pretty darn good.

If you talk about professional baseball, basketball and football games, it'll be a hard sell to stadium management get this lens into stadium. For college games, YMMV, but there is a whole thread on POTN or somewhere where photogs are not allowed.

Also remember you still need good lit stadiums to capture action. This lens can achieve amazing results, but it's very very heavy and large. If you point at somebody in broad daylight without prior knowledge, can be classified as a weapon too... LMAOLMAO

Yes I've seen few 400 2.8L's at events and yes it's cool $12k worthy..

I meant, if you buy it new... your credit card will double your warranty. I suppose the context wasn't sufficient to establish a basis for my point.

Yes tax kills for most people considering new is available for $2k many times during the year and add some cashback and coupons and stuff.

Not enough incentive for most people considering they had 20% off couple of weeks back and if you had this lens in your wishlist, you could order at $1599 + Tax. That is why this lens is still in stock also for such a long time. It went live at about 1AM today morning and CPW sent out notifications to most of lens hoarders like me.

I swear I paid about $1500-1600 for this lens new a few years ago but maybe my memory is foggy.

I'd imagine that the lenses are most likely owned by the magazine/newspaper they work for, and would be covered bu insurance.

It depends on the stadium as to whether or not they would let you in with this lens. In houston, I've gotten into Astros and Texans games no problem. The rockets arena won't let you in with a lens bigger than 4" though.
