Original Post

Well, if you are a SD golfer like me, this is a great deal on a new set of graphite shaft irons from Callaway.

This was Golf DIgest 2012 HOT LIst club( cannot remember gold or silver rating)

I have been tracking this set on Ebay auctions since early 2013, the average price is in the low to mid $300+ shipping. So with BUY-It-Now at $300, I think it is a great deal, no waiting.

If you have a 10% off Ebay coupon from this week, for $270 shipped(YMMV), heck of a set at this price.

My last SD deal on the Srixons Z-star golf balls(my first SD deal actually) went FP, so hope you like this one.

Disclaimer: pls no TC and compare to the $199 set of clubs with putter and bag. Nothing wrong with those, just apples and oranges. Thank youBig Grin FORE

These are not like blades in any sense. These have huge soles, very elongated from heel to toe, a massive sweet spot and all the weight in the bottom of the clubhead. If comparing to blades, these are close to the opposite. A great set for a beginner IMO. The graphite shafts in these particular clubs are a different story.

The problem is that these regular flex graphites are very weak. If you have any speed in your swing the shot patterns won't be anywhere near ideal. Both the clubhead and the shafts are made to hit the ball high and the soft tip will lead to inconsistency, not to mention they will be very light overall. These irons are pretty much made for older men who just wanna get the ball in the air. Good buy if you fit that criteria, but I would not recommend these if you're an athlete who can generate speed.
They don't look like they have a very wide foot in the picture but I'll trust your input. I still think a set of hybrids are better for beginners.

The +4 pieces are woods, driver, and a hybrid club. Also new to golf I have no idea if those 4 clubs but I'm guessing the that +250 dollars and tax is not worth it for those extra clubs.
I'm curious about this as well; noticed these clubs last week at Costco, but couldn't find reviews anywhere since they're a Costco only item.

I love Callaway and owned their Diablos for a while (which unfortunately broke and still sold for $10 more than what I paid)... I then picked up a new left over set of Adams Idea A7OS (all hybrid & graphite shafts).
I really liked these and am actually happy that the previous ones were broken...

But to all the newbies here (me included, though I played extensively for a full year and consistently shoot early 80's now) my suggestion would be to buy what you like (cheap) and not get into "show-off" mode. It isn't really necessary although many people actually do it.

The janitor (who never took a lesson) from my work plays with me sometimes and he plays with his old battlesticks (that belonged to his father). He is way better than most of the fools on the course and I once spoke about my new set in front of him. His only words were "the clubs are only as good as the golfer". Sad but surprisingly TRUE!!!!
Yeah this one of the best deals I've seen since I also grabbed the A7OS hybrid graphites last year for $240.

I'd agree with the Janitor as well to some extent, though the graphites are much easier on my body than my old 70's-era Wilson blades were. Had I not lost 2 balls in the water and 2 in the gully yesterday (wind was whipping) I would have finally broken into the 80s. Such as is golf I guess.

Still for all my adjustments since picking up the game again last year, my score is about the same as it was the old blades. I keep thinking, maybe next game, maybe next game... laugh out loud

Careful with graphite... they break much easier depending on your swing.

Dunno if he's referring to a golf term I'm unfamiliar with, but in my world a deadlift refers to a lift with free weights. It is kind of notoriously bad on backs though, so maybe he was thinking you should do it to strengthen your back? Unless you're trying to do olympic style lifting, there are much better exercises to go about doing for your back.
deadlifts are a great staple to any workout right up there with squats. Excellent compound workout that activates (taken via wiki who can go into much better detail that I can)

for $550, i would not. i would rather put my own set together. just go check out rockbottomgolf.com, compare to 2012 Golf Digest Hot List, and then head out to Golf Galaxy/GolfSmith or any other golf outlet and try the clubs.

then put your set together at rockbottomgolf.com. i don't think many beginners use 2 fairway woods, even 1 that often.
good driver, 3 wood, 1 3-hybrid, decent set of irons around 300, you can get the whole set that's much nicer for $550.

remember to try the clubs out tho.......

now, if you are true beginner and don't want to bother with putting a set together, then look for something cheaper, or even used set at those retailers. because eventually you will get better and want a new set. so save yourself the money and not waste it on this.

Thoughts on this one? A matching set with hybrids and cavity back irons for $300 from Callaway.

Looks like all 60 sets are gone for now. Sweet deal, though. My BOGO Callaway hybrids from last week are arriving on Wednesday - can't wait to use them.

Any left hand deals? Hate being a lh
Hate being LH???

I always see deals on LH clubs.

I would check around the various sites. Especially at the end of a season.

is this a better deal?

Biggest difference is steel vs graphite.

I would make your decision based on that. Outside of that, it's going to be mostly personal preference. They are both solid clubs.

Even graphite vs steel is personal preference for the casual golfer.
I had a decent set of graphite's I used to play with (and learned to play with). Couple years ago I switched to some Ping G5's w/ steel shafts.
I have hit my irons like $H!T ever since. That used to be the strongest (read most consistent) part of my game.
I've been toying around with the idea of going back to graphite on my irons. Every place you read says graphite is for old men/ladies with slower swing speeds... but I have a relatively fast swing speed and still hit better with graphite's.. I jumped on this deal to see if going back to graphite's will be the solution. I gave away my old clubs...

If not... I'm pretty confident I can sell these and break even (or at most a $50 loss).

I know this deal is dead and I probably won't get a response, but I'm thinking about these:

anyone bought from budgetgolfer? just wondering how reputable they are... seems like a good deal.
