Repped for the heads up, but I actually got rid of mine. The huge yellow "Nikon" is annoying and attracts unwanted attention. You can get black straps for less than $10 that are more comfortable and help you slide under the radar. Plus, they're often neoprene, which absorbs bounces and jolts, making it much more comfortable.




Also, for you potential buyers, remember that any Nikon DSLR you buy will come with this strap from the factory, unless it is a higher end, in which it is similar to this strap but has the name emblazoned on it as well. Example:

I brought one because I don't want to use my even flashier Canon 5D Mark II straps. I hope they clean it before calling it "refurb". I plan to use dye/markers to grey out the yellow and use it as a generic/ironic strap on my Canon DSLR.

I'd like to thank all the people who walk around with big flashy branded straps. It make you a much larger target for thieves than me. IMO the only reason to put the brand name strap on your camera, is when you come to sell it.

You mean that ginormous DSLR isn't a huge flashy sign to begin with? Or someone posing around like they're taking a photo?

Nope, I traveled Thailand, Laos, and India for a year, camera in hand, and had no problems with theft. I covered the DLSR in dirty white cloth (finger) tape. Replaced the strap with an old cotton bandanna. It looked like total shit and was barely in one piece (although it was in perfect working order). So bad dude cruising the crowd looking for a mark wasn't going to waste their time with mine.

I also didn't wear it around my neck. I wound my neck strap around my wrist, which I find much more comfortable. I wore a shoulder messenger style bag so I can keep my hand in the bag, camera in hand out of sight. I was able to walk anywhere and no-one knew I had a camera in my hand. When I knew I'd found something I wanted to photo, I could plan my shot, then get it out to shoot, before putting it right back.

Just looking like you're the kind of person who takes precautions, is situationally aware and is taking steps to prevent theft, is going to move you down the list of targets, and you only have to move yourself off the top spot to be safe. Meanwhile there was always some dude with his camera around his neck, big flashy strap announcing to everyone the brand and model. I liked seeing those guys, because they we're far more likely to be targeted than me. So again thanks to those guys! Keep it up!
