How is this camera? Sorry im such noob when it comes to this? Thank you in advance for any advice. Im just looking for a good point and shoot device. Would anyone reccommended this?

Seems to be a good price on a decent camera, but after having two Samsung cameras (WB150F, ST66) die on me in recent memory I would stay away from them.

Its a GREAT camera at a great price, but not a point and shoot, You buy more lenses for it.

For the same price but point and shoot get: the Panasonic LX7k from Amazon today at all time low price.

That's not even close to an all time low price. It's been down to $275 before.

Also, the NX1000 can be used just like a P&S camera. Just put it on auto. No need to ever buy another lens. In that case, it's a far better camera than the LX7 at a lower price. The only problem with the NX1000 is that it's a Samsung in a M43/NEX world. But as long as they want to use it as a P&S camera and not buy anymore lenses, that's not an issue.

yep 20+MP in APSC sensor, the FL equivalent of 35mm is 30-75mm perfect for P&S, the flash can be bounce by attaching a foil snoot underneath.

This camera is worth 300 for sure.

Are you seriously suggesting that a self described noob looking for a point and shoot's BEST choice is a camera with a 35mm crop factor of just 31-77mm?

Its not a matter of being able to "use it" as a point and shoot, its a matter of whether its the best choice for someone looking for one.

My main camera is a Samsung NX210, which replaced my NX100. I love the series, and I am sorry that the Woot's NX1000 at $299 has not gotten more traction.

The image quality is outstanding. The lens in this kit is alone worth $170 - its one of the sharpest kit lens' you can get.

But I would not suggest any mirrorless camera with limited zoom as the best choice to someone looking for a single camera to use everywhere with no add ons. That's especially true now that serious and versitile point and shoots like the LX7, S100 and XV-1 have been available at the same price.

Yeah. And why not? Not everyone is looking for a superzoom. Plenty of cameras are sold with 3x zoom. And you aren't considering the fact that the LX7 is a 10MP camera, the NX1000 is 20MP. So cropping 10MP out of that 20MP would effectively double the zoom at the same resolution as the LX7. That gives the NX1000 31-154mm effective. That's pretty wide range for a P&S camera. All with better IQ.

Your math is off, you have to go to 4X the resolution to double the zoom...its a factor not linear [snapsort.com]

My mistake. Regardless, the point still holds. So the zoom is more like 31mm-112mm. Which traditionally has been regarded as the best single walk around focal range. That's why there are so many zooms in that range like the 28-105mm.

Lost in the shuffle (perhaps partly my fault) is that the NX1000 with the 20-50 lens is an amazing value for $300.

Please let me know if anything will touch the IQ for the same price.

There are not a lot of in depth NX1000 reviews but the NX210 I own is nearly the same camera (and it comes with an arguably inferior lens).

DPReview of the NX210 [dpreview.com] (Silver Award) - The only real differences are the kit lens and an AMOLED screen. IQ and basic controls are the same.

You can argue that the Sony NEX is a better camera..but please show me one with lens for $300.

I dumped my Pentax K20 plus lenses and my Panasonic 4/3 stuff when I saw how good the IQ of the NX100 was...and how cheap the quality lenses were.

My point and shoot if I had only 1 camera would be a travel zoom. But for $300 (and the price you can get additional lenses for on eBay. The NX1000 is very hard to beat.

Plus, they are simple to operate cause Samsungs processing and Program modes are great.

Thanks for the advice. I was looking at the LX7 and love it. Good reviews too. Think imma keep an eye on it until price drop a bit more... hopefully
