$5 ModernMix - Use Windows 8 Metro (Full screen required) apps IN WINDOWS - 30 day trial
StarDock ModernMix [stardock.com] is free to try for 30 days, $5 to purchase.
From Stardock:
This app's pretty straightforward... it takes all those "Forced full screen mode" apps, and lets you run them in regular, normal, WINDOWS! Wow, windows within Windows, who woulda thought right?
While technically in beta, I've not yet had problems with it in 2 days. While technically full price after the trial, it's solving such a huge problem for Windows 8 users that I thought it belonged in Hot Deals anyway. $5 to buy "usable" access to the market is worth it. There are some nice apps there. I think it meets the criteria of a "hot deal" even without an additional discount.
StarDock has some other useful programs as well. They're a reputable company and their other stuff is worth taking a look.
From Stardock:
What is ModernMix™?Windows 8 is quite a mixed bag, it's got a lot of improvements, but the "FULL screen ONLY" thing for all the "Modern" apps, the ones you buy in their app store, completely kills their usefulness for me. I just ignore them. They might as well not exist, it's that big of a deal. (I also miss "Aero" and to a less extent the Start Menu, but I can live without them.)
ModernMix is a revolutionary new program that lets you run Windows® 8 "Modern" apps in a window on the desktop.
Windows 8 Modern apps, also known as Metro or RT apps, will use the full screen on your display regardless of how much of the screen they really need. As a result, that weather app, mail program or stock ticker is going to use the entirety of your computer display.
