Thread Details

Gearbuzz [gearbuzz.com] has the Jay bird JF3 Freedom Bluetooth Headphones for $49.95 and $10 shipping. Cheaper than I paid on the Amazon deal a little bit ago.

JayBird J3 Freedom features premium music and calls, with warm bass, tuned to eliminate listener fatigue during long workouts. These Stereo Bluetooth buds feature a lifetime warranty against sweat, six hours of music play time and a secure fit. Designed for activity, having on-ear music and call controls is significant. Controls on a cord can result in fumbling and dislodging of your earbud, a major distraction to your workout. On-ear controls offer quick, confident commands so you can focus and get the most from your workout.

Key Features

Bluetooth Wireless Music + Calls
Patented Secure Fit for Sports
Lifetime Warranty Against Sweat
Premium Audio Quality
6 hour Battery Music/Talk Play Time - Standby Time: 250 Hrs
Official Training Headphone of USA Triathlon

finally got mine today...did anyone's actually come with the "magnet sealed jaybird carry case"? This seems to be a smaller box than shown on the Jaybird site.

I got the smaller box too, without the premium carrying case.

Yeah mine came with a pretty slick magnetic RETAIL box, nothing I would consider a carrying case though. Just a little bag.The Jaybird website does say "Premium carry case" on the in the box section. I would hardly consider the bag premium.

Got mine last night. And I HATE IT.

I've been using the LG HBS 700 for over a year now. It is always around my neck. And the only qualms I had with them is that they fall off while doing bench/abs workout. Basically if you are lying down. Otherwise they have *really* good battery life, distance. I can be in the opposite corner of our gym and still have uninterrupted music.

I was really looking forward to the Jaybirds because they will not fall off and it has better sound quality over the LG headphones. But I'm selling the Jaybirds after one day of use because:

1) I cant keep them around my neck when I'm not using them. I like having the LG on my neck when not in use.
2) The bluetooth reception on Jaybird is ridiculously bad. I kept the phone on a shelf while working out and the quality immediately deteriorates the second my head goes lower than the phone (within a few meters of the phone).
3) The buttons on the Jaybird are way too hard to operate when they are sitting in your ear.
4) LG uses the same charger as my android phone (micro usb) so I dont need to carry a separate wire to work, in my car, on vacations.

Just my two cents.
Anyone else have reception issues at small distances?

1. I like being able to pocket mine when not in use.
2. I keep my phone in my pocket and it's been fine. I'll try longer distances today.
3. Agreed, they take some getting used to.
4. Agreed, I hate companies who use proprietary cables/chargers.

Jaybird's site says that, but Gearbuzz's site didn't. I'll try contacting Jaybird on Monday to ask about the case. A little disappointed that we didn't get one.

The tiny user guide that comes with it does say "Magnet Sealed JayBird Carry Case" on the In The Box page. I don't consider the retail package a carry case, even if it does have a magnet. I did notice the packing slip does say "small box" in the description.

For those looking for a great alternative, I've been using the Sony MW600 for a long time now.

Great distance (I once left my phone on an upstairs treadmill at the gym and didn't realize it until I was in the locker room (a LONG distance away) because I the music never stopped.

But the best thing about them is that you can plug any headphones into the Bluetooth unit. The Bluetooth piece clips onto a shirt easily. I have used it at the gym on treadmills, elipses, and outside road biking. Probably inclippd once in the past 1.5 years or so.

I'm going to call as well. The more I look at it, I think the small baggie is just supposed to be for the small cords/accessories, since the buds themselves don't fit very well in it. Also, take a look at this Amazon Review [amazon.com]. The reviewer is clearly referencing a better case which we didn't receive

The headphones come with a nice magnetic case. It's a nice extra perk they threw in especially since I use them for working out. When I'm done, I don't have to throw them in my gym bag hoping for them to not get smashed. They fit nicely in the case and are protected. on the inside of the case is even a strip of elastic which is nice to tuck the cord underneath.

For those of you complaining about the case - as an owner of these (and paid significantly more), the case is pretty annoying and impractical. the headphones have to be like coiled up and squeezed in. I never use it and prefer to just put them in my bag or pocket.

+1 to that. I throw my Triple Fi's in the magnetic case and use a slightly different shaped soft formed case for the Jay birds. Works out much better.

I need a hard case. I stuffed my older head phones in my backpack all the time and they broke. Actually, I broke 3 pairs like this now. I'd rather deal with a hard case than breaking another pair so this would be nice if I can get it.

I hear ya...I take care of my stuff pretty meticulously, but I really can't stress enough how useless the case is. Find a hard case from almost anything else you own and I assure you it will be better.
