That's not actually true. It's only illegal to furnish a minor with alcohol if it's not in your own home:

I only know that because we were having this exact conversation at work the other day. I'm in favor of letting kids try a sip of beer from time to time (never enough to get intoxicated). It lessens the allure of "the thing they can't have" and in such small quantities it's relatively harmless. And this is coming from a parent that doesn't let them have caffeine.

This makes news, yet we never hear about all the families in Mississippi or the other tragic backwaters of America that encourage their children to eat themselves into type 2 Diabetes - which does a heck of a lot more damage than a couple tokes.

Why then should the woman not be allowed to let her 2 year old child smoke from a bong? After all, it would lessen the allure of "the thing they can't have"?

If he can drink beer at 3 or so, why not let him toke some dope?

One problem with legalization is that there will be many more incidents such as in the OP as time progresses, as apparently is evidenced by some participants this very thread. Parents think nothing of and actually encourage their children to drink alcohol, because it's legal to possess and consume (for adults) and the same will happen with MJ, since it is now legal to possess and consume. After all, if it's legal and dad and mom do it, then what's the harm, right?

The issue is the effect of alcohol on the system, not "drinking." Take every swig of beer my son has ever had from his dad's homebrew and combine them in one glass he still wouldn't feel it at 50 lbs.

There are many persons here on TP who just about fall all over themselves trying to convince us that MJ is harmless, no one dies from it, does not cause cancer, is a naturally grown plant, blah blah blah. You would not easily convince them that their MJ is worse than alcohol. Not that they would really care, anyway.

It's not drinking; it's having a sip (like maybe a tablespoon worth). Those studies are checking people who start drinking at early ages (like teenagers getting drunk.)
