If you are just using it for email/music/movies I would go with a cheaper machine. You don't need that much horsepower.

I'd go with one of the $619.00 ($433 after discount) XPS desktops

I like the form factor of the XPS much better. And the 1080p screen was a must for me. I also lucked out and got an i7/8gb/256gb version, which you can't get with the YOGA as far as i know.

I'm dealing with the Yoga 13 vs XPS 12 issue myself. I actually prefer the screen on the Yoga because I don't need to squint my eyes to read or blow things up and make everything disproportionate and the buttons are too tiny. The Yoga is also more upgrade friendly. But I do not like the tablet mode on the Yoga and the fact that it doesn't have a backlit keyboard. If you decide to go with the XPS, I suggest you get one with at least 8 GB RAM, since that cannot be upgraded later. Also, the trackpad on the XPS sucks bad. Better to disable it and use a mouse (or touch).

Thanks I pulled the trigger was looking for a X51 yesterday but couldn't get anything under 600.

Only concern was the HD 7570 card...I know it's weak but I should be able to play basic FPS/rpg (torchlight/D3), side scroller from time to time without much issue no? Would it be worth it to take the 620/640 instead (at 200 + more I didnt see much benefit if I am not doing hard core gaming

As far as the touchpad on the XPS12.... there are documented fixes for the wonkiness. I believe there's a setting for palm detection that's too aggressive.

Personally, I'm happy as long as it's not 1366x768.

Guess I haven't noticed the trackpad issue on mine .. Think I've used it maybe twice in the month I've owned this. Touchscreen really makes it pointless. I actually use it the majority of the time in reverse mode (lid open, screen flipped backwards)

how do we sort only 1080p screen xps?

Yeah, not trying to sway you or rationalize my own purchase. I was actually 100% for the XPS a month ago and loved playing with it at BestBuy.

That said, the complaints were with the Touchpad randomly not detecting movement. It particularly shows up if you attempt to type on the keyboard while doing touch. The driver craps out and doesn't recognize touch afterward.

As far as backlit keyboard.... I cringe whenever someone mentions something not having a "negative".

I'm a touch-typer, so backlit keybaord is almost useless. The scenarios where it is useful, are directly canceled out by the scenarios where it is not (wonky intensity algorithms in dark room).


Price won me over, for now (unless I discover more issues with the Yoga).

Gotcha, Both are great machines. Just the XPS fit what I wanted better.

I can't get the HX?R1SXHL6QC1D coupon to apply for the XPS 10's. Does it only show up when you're about to check out? Are they even worth getting (Is Windows RT any good?) @ $332.00 before tax?

What do you all think about these XPS versus the Alienware X51 deals they had last week? The X51 seemed to be more bang for the buck, but you probably lose some ability to upgrade. By the same token seems like a lot of people would prefer the X51 form factor. Is either type more reliable than the other? Thanks for any thoughts!
