this is a pretty good deal! the retina MBP is an amazing machine; as a programmer; I have gotten more use out of this machine than i have out of all my previous laptops combined! [i've only had it for 6 month]

Awesome deal for what it is. People need to stop complaining how this is overpriced. You can't really get a laptop with this specs at this build quality and weight. You probably want to spend the points on AppleCare since many of the parts are soldiered on.

You don't need much power to program. If you want the mac os, run it in a VM.

Right now you can get a Dell xps15 with FHD screen from the outlet [dell.com] for just under $1,000. You'll have to buy, and install a 256GB SSD for an additional $170 to get similar specs, but you're still saving $500.

It doesn't exist. Haters can hate on the price all day, but if you want a laptop with this much power at less than 5lbs there aren't any other options. If you want the form factor there is no other option. Sager 6110 is the closest that comes to mind, but 1344x768 screen and GDDR3 instead of GDDR5 on the GPU, but it is (almost) in your price range. I think the new Zenbooks have discrete GPUs, but then you're paying the close to the same price for a lot less screen and less GPU.
