Seriously guys? This thing is almost 5 lbs. Everyone who things they're buying a "lightweight" laptop is kidding themselves. This is solidly in midweight notebook category.
Save yourself ~$900 and wait for a deal along these lines: http://slickdeals.net/f/5782324-L...ay-900-tax Massively better GPU, upgraded CPU, FHD screen, Blu Ray... for an extra 1.5ish pounds. You lose the SSD, but if you must have, buy a 120gb mSATA for $100 and install it alongside your 1TB storage drive. Still save yourself $800 for a much better system. |

Where all the comments about the weight being a huge factor? What does a laptop with a 1920x1080 screen have to do with this thread? |

I got this model for 1630 + tax from BB open box a week before they bumped specs and I wouldn't think twice about specs. As for Rakuten points, I definitely don't think you can give it a 1:1 dollar giveback as they have inflated prices recently on most items. Besides always buy Applecare from B&H for maximum savings....

I just sold mine locally after having it for a few months. As much as I wanted to love it - I couldn't justify the price vs utility. I am not a coder, don't do gaming, and the experience with Windows on it wasn't that great (the graphics switching wont work - it will always stay in discrete mode). The keyboard/trackpad also doesn't work as nicely on the windows side as in mac. One other thing to note is that you would be crazy not to buy the extra applecare (which would set you back another $250-350) because of how unrepairable this laptop is.
All told, I decided it was not for me. I know people who own one and love it (mostly coders, or those who love OSX), but I am going to hold out for a touch screen enabled, 1080P, sub 5 lb, >5 hour battery life laptop in the $1000 range. This laptop hits or is better than most of those specs (which is why I bought it), but I couldn't justify the $2200 I paid for it. At $1700 its a bit more interesting - but still not yet at a price point that would allow me to live with the things I didn't like about it (listed earlier). Hope this helps someone make their decision. |
