It's a midweight laptop to a midweight laptop. We're not going from 2.5 lbs to 7. If you really think that 1 lb extra is gonna break your back, feel free to shell out the $900 extra. I already addressed the SSD/storage issue. Not sure why anyone cares about the resolution... the human eye can resolve about 100 ppi at typical reading distances. Windows vs Apple is a totally different issue, my original comment only had to do with the fact that you can comparable hardware for half the price (excluding the screen, which won't make a different to most people... stop drinking the Apple koolaid)

Meh, I have no love for MS... I do most of my work in Linux, but Windows is hard to avoid for gaming! But hey, whatever helps you justify dropping an extra $900... helping the economy is a good thing I guess!

On a last note, why are people who aren't gaming or coding even buying this thing? You needs would be met with a $300 laptop for video/internet/general office use...

I appreciate what you are trying to do but you sound quite ridiculous with all the distant-related arguments. Just do the winning move and show everyone a laptop that has

1) FHD (not even a retina display)
2) Quad-core 2.3-3.3 ghz CPU
3) Swtitchable graphics with at least one having dedicated 1GB ram
4) New
5) 4.4 lbs or less (not even in lightweight category which would be I don't know <3 lbs)
6) $1,664 or less.

It is just that simple. You don't need to write several paragraphs and achieve nothing. If you want to prove you are right, of course.

I bought this laptop last year and fell in love with it. There is a bit of a markup (Not much if you compare it to similar ultrabooks) but it is by far the most beautiful and functional computer I have ever worked on.

I used to really hate on OS X and the first thing I did on this laptop is bootcamp it. Over time, I came to prefer OS X and am going to delete the Windows partition as soon as I need the space.

Just came home from bestbuy to actually take a look at these things... they had one open box 13" with the retina display for $1200... I would have bought that had I had some sort of a coupon to use on it and get a bit of a better deal. But since I didn't I came home to buy this one and unfortunately it seems they are sold out.... Now I need a new deal!

All valid points. I Can only argue that although the Dell is Refurbished it still comes with a 1 year warranty, the same as the factory fresh Macbook. And the fact that I also added $170 to the equation for the addition of a nice 256GB SSD. To be honest, the Dell deal isn't particularly compelling, or near worthy of a Slickdeal designation, it was just something with similar specs that was available for much cheaper today.

Believe me I think the specs on this Macbook are badass, I'm just not a fan of the huge Apple price premium. But as long people keep paying the premium, Apple will happily continue to gouge them.

I totally agree with you on windows 8...... not a big fan.
