I need a waterproof camera (already have D600 for my main camera). Do you think J1 + waterproof case provide better image comparing to Nikon AW110 or the new Panasonic TS5?

I read some reviews of the camera and they were not the best. Basically a camera that tries to appeal to "everyone" while filling no one in particulars needs.

If I recall them phrasing, "experienced photographers will be frustrated by a lack of features (or something along those lines), and novice photographers will end up being confused as to why their images show up blurry (due to the shutter speed or something).

I was REALLY interested in getting a J1 just so I could finally have 1 camera to do video and stills, but the reviews did not instill the confidence I need......

If you shoot in the default Auto ISO mode for example (which we suspect most point-and-shoot photographers will) you'll be disappointed by how many of your pictures seem blurry, thanks to the long shutter speeds the J1 and V1 insist on using in marginal light when they could increase the ISO instead. This isn't an insurmountable problem of course; ISO can be set manually, but only via the main menu system. This is indicative of another problem: frustratingly, neither the J1 nor V1 offers a 'quick menu' for easy access to frequently-changed settings - a standard feature on virtually every other camera from mid-range compacts upwards."

What would be a better choice for $200?

I was looking into waterproof cameras too. I'm sure it's not typical, but all of them seem to have quite a few reviews about problems leaking. I'm very worried about getting stuck with a $200+ dollar paperweight after it leaks day one. I actually bought the Nikon AW110, but after reading the reviews more I'm thinking about returning it.

I was thinking the same as well for the highspeed shooting, but I thought 400fps was 320x240? I'm waiting on V1 price drop for the EVF.

I wonder if this model can beat the highly regarded RX100 which is smaller and definitely more pockatable.

Nope. The J1/V1 were disappointments. The RX100... is stealing NEX users. I've said it before and I'll say it again. If someone has no intention to use anything but the kit lens, get a RX100 instead of a mirrorless. The only reason to get a mirrorless is if you will be using different lenses extensively.
