Well you are on slickdeals where every camera thread has at least one person asking "how does this compare with my t3i/d3x/nex/d800?" or asking if sigma E mount lenses work on their Leica M9

you got a couple isolated incident and you said that was an attainable price? I can easily say I got a lamborghini for $50 from some of my friends, thus the lambo is attainable at $50. I'll take a 2 year old, you have a brain of a monkey.

I would easily take the J1 over that psuedo SLR Panasonic.

I owned the RX100 for a short time and I loved the form factor/flash but I did not like the slowness of the camera. At 21MP per picture that camera is slow in terms of interface. Image review is terrible compared to the J1. I think it takes slightly better pictures but Sony needs to beef up the CPU to match its ridiculous resolution. If the RX100 were as responsive as the J1 I would have actually enjoyed the camera.

Also I had the RX100 right when it came out and there was no RAW support except in the Sony software so that was an absolute joke.

I chose the J1 because I was able to get it for less than half the cost and it's still a comparable camera. Both take pictures leagues ahead of any P&S and shoot RAW.

The J1 is a steal at $200 grab an extended warranty for piece of mind also grab a off brand wireless remote for like $5. Worst things about the J1 I have seen is the controls are a little wonky but they are responsive. I've used mine to take some very nice 360 panoramas. Problem is the manual focus resets in between shots so that is the stupidest thing I've encountered with the J1.

Almost bought AW110, had the same concern. Finally got new J1 with 10 mm lens and 10 -30 mm, plus Polaroid underwater case yesterday. Also received PT-1 converter today since I have bunch of Nikon FX lenses. Haven't got chance to test it out but will see in 2 weeks when I trip to Hawaii. I had good experience with canon p&S camera plus underwater housing. Hope they wouldn't disappoint me.

If you want the interchangeable lenses, then the J1 automatically wins. If, on the other hand, you're just going to leave it on auto and never get another lens, a smaller compact like the LX7 would be much more reasonable with it's higher aperture (F1.4-2.3). Alternatively, the RX100 and the RX1 .

VIP is free to Join. It's been free for a while... not sure when it won't be free.

You get 20GB of Pogoplug storage among other things. You also have an option to pay $7.95 for VIP extended warranty. It's $7.95 per year and it extends all purchases including refurbs for a year after the manufacturer warranty expires. "The VIP Extended Warranty" only warranties items after you purchase the "VIP Extended Warranty" - Meaning anything you bought prior to purchasing the warranty coverage isn't covered.

If you make frequent purchases from Adorama I would think it's certainly worth looking in to.
